The Mo th e rs Club of St. Viator College held a s pecial melting in th e Sorority room s of Marsi le H a ll, March fou rteenth. The evening was featured by th e lecture delive r ed by Dr. E. V. Car dinal, C. S. V., head of the History d epartment, on the s ubject of Italy 's d ictator Premier, Musso lini. Dr. Cardinal is an authority on Italian political life having s pent considerable time there while writing on his doctorate dissertation- Cardinal Campeggio. The College orchestra p layed several modern selections during th e course of th e evening. The members of the Social Sorority h elped to serve the luncheon which con· eluded the evening. The Sorority boasts of new and very beautif ul draperies purchased from the proceeds of their many entertainments which have done so much to enliven th e social life of the college. The scene for th e mee ting of th e Mother s Clu b was very effec tive, and th e evening most profitably and enjoyably sp ent by th e mothers and their guests. Miss Gen evieve Adams was chairman of the arr angements committee formed fo r th e evening t o assist th e Mothers Club.

The retreat, being on e of the most important events it! th e college calendar is fittingly held at th e end of the Holy Sea.Son of Lent including those so rrowful days of H oly Week, Thursday until Saturday. With it the long period of self denial is closed- a time of introspec tion. All Catholic Resident ~nd Day s tud ents are required to att end and are impressed with the solemnity of the even t. A Gr eat Orator The selection of Fr. Shea fo r Retreat Master is a particularly happy one. A graduate of beth the Academy, 1912, and t he College of St. Viator, 1916, he taught while he studied theology. After finishing his studies at St. Paul he was ordained in 1921 a t Peoria, by Mos t Rev. Edmund 1\II. Dunne. He was assigner! to H oly Trinity Parish, Bloomington where he se rved until 1928, whell! he was called to P eoria to aCt as Chancellor of the diocese. Desiring t o take up parish work again, his ap pointment as successor to the late Fr. Cannon at St. Mary's, Pontiac, August, 1932, was most welcome. His farewell address in St. Mary's Cathedral, Peoria, w here h e had bee n so well appr eciated was a masterly oration, and his many friends were deeply moved by it, as well as by his r etire m ent from th e chancellorship which occasioned it.
