It is not a com :cal play, nor is it, in the force of th(:' te rm, a tragedy; it is interesting, · though, as a uBw nov el and is admirably adapted for be.'l.utiful stage effects. The shepherd s of the bny of Ischia, headed h y th e brave and leam ed Cecato, were the la ughable feature of the play. The lin es were well learned, the nature of their roles well stndiecl and rendered; this, rem f)m.ber, iS the great merit of an actor: to und erstand th~ i·ole be personat.~ s and to give it faithful, life-like expression.

The meeting of the two little brothers was fair; I'm tempted to say very g vod. The anxiety ofth e shepherds after their lost Genaro was natural enoug h, as also their willingness t o dispose of old Banquo, ancl their behavior in the royal halL Ceca to, of loafing reputa tio11, also onc.e t.be rig ht arm of Jean Renaud , d eserves special menti on for the able manner in which he played his part; his every move was th e sig nal for a laugh. His speech before the roy a l Court should be preserved as a mosl powerful weapon for the undoers of conspiracies.
