VERMONT ACADEMY 2017-2018 ANNUAL REPORT

Dear Vermont Academy Community, As I reflect on my first year as Head of School, I am humbled by the warm welcome I have received from so many alumni, parents, and former parents and friends. It is clear to me that Vermont Academy is poised to prepare the students of the future for a world in which curiosity, innovation, flexibility, adaptability, and technical skill proficiency will be increasingly important. Our commitment to upholding the humanistic values in education that enable us to be conscious, thriving citizens of the world is strong, and we are inspired by, not fearful of, a world that will include robotics, artificial intelligence, data analytics, and engineering. Our students have always excelled in experiential learning, and we have a high percentage of graduates who develop their own businesses. This past year was such a success for our Annual Fund goals, and much of this is thanks to the increased commitment of our Vermont Academy family and the re-engagement of many graduates. We reached the second highest Annual Fund total in the history of the school! Yet we are still a long way off from peer schools, and we need to increase our goals each year so that we can address campus beautification, deferred maintenance, and improved student experiences.

Our commitment to upholding the humanistic values in education that enable us to be conscious, thriving citizens of the world is strong, and we are inspired by, not fearful of, a world that will include robotics, artificial intelligence, data analytics, and engineering. — DR. JENNIFER L. ZACCARA, Head of School

We will continue to work hard here at Vermont Academy to provide a top-notch education for our students and to rekindle our larger alumni and parent community as we tell the stories about what makes Vermont Academy distinct. Your support is a testament to our efforts, and I look forward to meeting all of you who helped us meet and exceed our goals this past year. Thank you for your love for our school, and keep pouring it on! We are ready to sail into the next generation, but we cannot do it without you. Warm Regards,

DR . J E N N I F E R L . Z AC C A R A ,

Head of School

ermont Academy has encouraged me to try V new things and get me out of my comfort zone. I came here as a hockey player and never expected to become a varsity soccer and tennis player, tour guide, and Spanish tutor. I would’ve never been able to achieve any of those if I didn’t come to this school. All of the faculty and student support has allowed me to excel both academically and athletically, so I am very grateful for that.” — NICK RASHKOVSK Y ’19
