he 14th Annual Wranglers Bull Sale starts with a reflection of our 13th sale. The opportunity to stand before a packed crowd in the sale barn, see the belief in and support of our programs and spend an evening of great food and fellowship, was very gratifying and for that we thank you! The Wray family is back again with an outstanding set of Hereford bulls. I am always amazed to see for the first time the offering that so many years in the seedstock business can produce and it is quite a measuring stick to work towards. The 2J bulls once again have been here since weaning, fed and handled the same as our bulls. This year’s set is outstanding and it is extra special for me to see progeny from one of our own bulls, out of the cow herd developed over the years by the Eastons.
At AW Angus, the 2016 calf crop is our 20th set of registered calves. As the cowherd continues to improve so does the quality and uniformity in the bull pen. As in the past our bulls are not hard fed – no creep feeders, no self feeders! It takes a lot longer to develop cow families, pedigrees, structure and carcass than simply packing pounds on! While we realize sale day is important, breeding season for many of our customers is 60-90 days away, plenty of time to continue our bulls’ slow and steady development. We encourage you to view the bulls any time prior to the sale. As mentioned in the past, I’m not much of a high tech guy. Seeing the bulls in person is always best, but if you are unable to make it to the sale, we will do everything we can to help you out. As we try and do everything around here ourselves, including taking our own pictures, vet kid/ photographer will tell you a picture is worth a thousand words, but when I’m helping in the picture pen, it’s always the same word.

Reported in inches. Rib fat is the main trait that affects percent lean meat yield ie; A1, A2, A3, & A4. Percent lean meat yield is the calculation that estimates the percent of lean muscle on the carcass. For example, a lean meat yield of 60% on a 1000lb carcass would have 600lbs of lean muscle and 400lbs of bone and fat. Ribeye Area (REA): An area measurement of the loin or ribeye muscle. Reported in square inches. While an increase in backfat will lower the percent lean meat yield an increase in REA will raise the percent lean meat yield.
