President’s Message…

Maureen M Karas

I am writing this on Sunday with cautious optimism, a mere 9 days away from what I believe will be a Republican Victory across this great country, and God willing, Nevada as well. I implore you to do all you can to help Team Nevada and our candidates GET-OUT-THE-VOTE. Victory depends upon our success at delivering voters to the polls. Just yesterday, I had the good fortune of attending some Nevada Day festivities in Carson City including the parade and a rally for Senator Heller and Congressman Amodei. The excitement and enthusiasm of the crowds was contagious. Complete strangers came up to me to talk, seeing my Romney pin, or gave me a thumbs up. It is a good time to be a Republican! It is even better to have a candidate, Mitt Romney, who stands for individual liberties, freedom, a limited federal government and a free market economy based upon capitalism. And although our Democrat competitors like to carry the banner of values, it is Mitt Romney the person whose life of service and charity is emblematic of trust and righteousness. ______________________________________ On November 15th at ARW’s General Membership Meeting, you will be voting for ARW’s new Executive Board whose service will carry the club through the 2013-2014 Biennium. This is such an important event for ARW, and I know you will want to be in attendance to exercise your vote! Although the nominating committee has carefully selected a slate of candidates, additional nominations will be taken from the floor for each office: President, 1st Vice President Programs, 2nd Vice President Membership, Secretary and Treasurer. All will be installed at our December meeting. As I near my end of service as your President, I am blessed to introduce you to a slate of amazing women whom your Nominating Committee has carefully selected to be candidates for your new Executive Board. PRESIDENT: CHERIE WOOD, 1st Vice President ARW, 2nd Vice President NvFRW, and NV Representative –Membership Committee NFRW. Cherie is a born leader who has lived her life following a deep moral compass, exemplified in her family, business and Republican Women relationships. She is a wife, mother, grandmother and small business owner. As women, we know that in order to achieve these blessings, one has to be well organized, bright and a selfstarter. Cherie is all of these and more. Many of you may have seen two “I am a Republican Women” You-Tube videos produced by the NvFRW Regents and on the ARW website. Cherie not only chaired this committee, but the inspiration was hers. How great it is to have an idea, convince others to join-in and see it through execution. This is the kind of leadership, both innovative and executive, that will continue ARW on the path of excellence.

1ST VICE PRESIDENT PROGRAMS: Diane Welch, 1st Vice President ARW Diane is a legal professional with knowledge valuable to ARW; she is a lawyer and the current Assistant General Counsel for the College of Southern Nevada. Her legal career spanning 17 years includes positions as Law Clerk for the 8th Judicial Court, Dept. VI, research analyst and legal research assistant. She is also a military daughter, wife and mother – three generations of military working to insure our freedoms as Americans! 2nd VICE PRESIDENT MEMBERSHIP: Stephanie Reeder, ARW Treasurer Stephanie is a people person who has never known a stranger; just the sort of person who will be terrific at growing our membership. She is a deeply spiritual woman, wife, mother and grandmother several times over! Her experience as your Treasurer make her a perfect fit for this position since she is familiar with quarterly reports and our membership roster. many of our special events and fundraisers. If Margaret were not a nurse practitioner, she surely would have been an artist! Besides her love of art and desire to promote wellness, she is a wife, mother, grandmother and small business owner. Margaret has successfully married her “creative nursing” with her computer skills to make a living. She measures success as the ability to make a difference with her family and community while keeping joy in her heart. This goal has served her well for more than 50 years! TREASURER: Priscilla Campbell, ARW Assistant to the Treasurer, Treasurer – Republican Women of Southern Nevada PAC, and Budget & Finance Chair – NvFRW. Professionally, Priscilla is an Accountant who worked as an Accounting Manager for a large firm and Controller for a Restaurant chain. As a volunteer over the last 7+ years, Priscilla has shared her skills with the Nevada Republican Party and the Republican Women of Las Vegas. Recently, Priscilla offered to mechanize ARW’s accounting records by putting them on Quick Books – no easy task! Priscilla is a wife and life-long Republican whose full time job” with no pay” (Ha) is volunteering! I hope this gives you the information you need to help you with your voting decision later this month. And better yet, I hope to see each and every one of you on the 15th at Spanish Trail. Please join us for this important election and also to thank our military, active and Veterans, for their selfless service to our wonderful country. See you next month!
