The Vibrancy of
Venice It’s not just the cheese, wine, cured meats and “dolce vita” that Kelly Hannel from Vedere vendor Amighini Architectural misses about Italy. “In my opinion some of the most beautiful works are from our native land.”
Peruse these color-rich architectural stunners and let us know which one is your favorite. Then discover the amazing works of Amighini Architectural at amighini.vedere.com. Learn about our vendors and keep up with the latest industry news at blog.vedere.com.

Amighini sources rare antiques with a special interest in Italian doors, and after doing some of our own research on the doors of Burano Island in Venice, we agree with her. The only thing that would make these entrances any sweeter would be a plate of prosciutto and burrata waiting on the other side—and given the location, it’s a distinct possibility, right?

At Resource Furniture, we like to prove that dwellers can live bigger no matter where or what they call home. One challenging example was a project with actor Bryan Cranston. We supplied the furniture for Mr. Cranston’s 11’ x 12’ 4” home gym/guest room in his family’s Ventura County, CA eco-friendly beach house, featuring the Nuovoliola ‘10 space-saving system. What’s so remarkable about this piece is that the Nuovoliola ‘10 is a self-standing, vertically opening queen bed with a sofa that comes with or without arms on the front. And, of course there is storage underneath the sofa seat—perfect for blankets—or the boxed DVD set of Breaking Bad. Toronto based custom furniture designer, Reed Hansuld, one of the finalists for the Design Quest 2012, gives Vedere a sneak peek at his latest commission. Follow Vedere and let us know what you think via Twitter at @VedereOnline.
Step 1: The Commission In January, I was commissioned a job by a family who had moved into a new house about 45 minutes from my home city of Toronto. They’d heard of my work and wanted chairs, a dining room table and a set of six white oak bar stools. I’m currently working on the stools with a budget of $650 per piece. I expect to have completed by mid-April.
Step 2: The Design and Prototype The design was based on my best-selling stool but with this item, I tried to play with the lines a bit more so that the legs would flare out more dramatically at the top. I chose a walnut wood because that was what I had in stock and I thought it would compliment the metal base nicely. I usually sketch as my starting point, but with seating, you have to prototype it so that you can get a feel for it in three dimension. It’s important to see it at three hundred sixty degrees, walk around it, sit in it, and test the footrest’s ability to withstand the abuse of tough work boots. What is pictured below is the working walnut prototype I have been enjoying in the studio for the last week. Step 3: The Product Is Always a Work in Progress

The process of producing a chair or stool from design to prototype to finished product can take a few days and sometimes a few weeks. Every time I get a big order, I’m always inclined to reinvent the process, even in a small way. The smaller budget has been a fun challenge, I’ve had to force myself to come up with a smart design and process to make the product. I’m actually making one for myself to keep as well.
