We received crucial encouragement from the National Cancer Institute with renewal of our designation and a clear road map of how we can become the first NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in Virginia. Governor Bob McDonnell demonstrated his commitment to our mission with an unprecedented allocation in the biennial budget, which was wholeheartedly endorsed by the General Assembly. Finally, Massey was the beneficiary of an extraordinary $25 million bequest which will allow endowment gifts to be transformed into exceptional recruitment and retention opportunities, ultimately resulting in even greater momentum in our research progress.
