Caroline Murphy of the University of Toronto Varsity Blues was named the East community service award winner and five of her teammates earned all-star honours as the OUA announced women’s soccer major awards and all-stars Wednesday afternoon. Aisha Lewis, Olivia Gonsalves and Diana Esteireiro all earned first team honours, while Fatima Braimoh and rookie Claudia Piazza were named to the second team. A fourth-year architecture and art history major, Murphy shares her passion for the arts as a volunteer at the Varley Art Gallery and Royal Ontario Museum. The Stouffville, Ont., native also serves as a community coach for various soccer clubs in the Toronto area. A fourth-year striker, Lewis led the team and ranked fourth in the OUA with nine goals this season. This is the Mississauga native`s all-start recognition of her career. Esteireiro picks up her third consecutive all-star nod. The Etobicoke, Ont., native and veteran defender led Toronto`s back line and helped guide the team to an incredible 12 goals against in 16 games. The same holds true for Gonsalves (Scarborough), a third-year midfielder on the team. She garners her first OUA recognition after helping the team to a solid 10-3-3 record and second-place finish in the OUA East. Braimoh was again named to the second team. The thirdyear defender from London, Ont., was also a constant threat among Toronto`s defensive corps, while Piazza, a first-year striker from Brampton, helped lead U of T`s offensive attack and notched her first career goal in a 1-0 win over RMC on Sept. 21.
