"At this writing, cases have edged ahead of last year's. No one can accurately predict the full toll f o r 1951. Too Young It may have been rudeness when the students eating in the dining halls booed and jeered a t the head-waiter when he read the points of etiquette t h a t had been revised by the dining hall committee. Again, it m a y have been j u s t rudeness when some students guffawed a t Saturday's performance of Hedda Gabler. J u s t taking these incidents a t t h e i r surface value might indicate lack of manners. But looking a little more deeply into t h e matter, one might come to suspect t h a t a good share of the men and women a t Hope a r e only little children a f t e r all. Many of these "children" have come to Hope because t h e y didn't want to be on their own quite so soon. W h a t b e t t e r place than a college campus to have a good time with a minimum of worry, responsibility, and serious t h o u g h t ? The very ones who think t h a t college should be such a place and who are merely here stalling off the necessity of growing up f o r f o u r years are t h e ones who m a k e themselves conspicuous by laughing loudly a t every opportunity. Must a play be humorous to be entertaining? Only t o an immature person who had no conception of t r a g e d y or t h e soul of Ibsen could the performance of Hedda Gabler have provided cause f o r such mad hilarity. Rude? Yes, rude! And childish, too. There are some other students on this campus who are mature and who r e f r a i n f r o m embarrassing other people w i t h loud laughter and comments. T h a n k goodness f o r those atl Hope who know when to laugh and when to be silent. T h e only advice appropriate f o r the "wise ones" around Holland! would seem to be t h a t it is better to keep one's mouth shut] and let others think one a fool, t h a n to open it and remove; all doubt. y g

Results Of Poll Termed Shocking By Ray Vedder, Research Editor The first ACP National Poll of Student Opinion has been conducted, tabulated, and studied. Some highly interesting, humorous, and shocking opinions were found to exist on the Hope College campus. Operating under rules suggested by the ACP, fifty interview sheets were circulated among a carefully proportioned number representing each class. In each succeeding poll conducted, different representatives will be interviewed from each class, so a fair estimate of student body opinion may be obtained. Hope Cagers Nip Alma, Whip Adrian Breeze By Bulldogs After Conquering Scots 63-62 In First Conference Tilt In what promises to be the hardest-fought, closest MIAA race in years, the Hope Dutchmen captured first place early by virtue of copping two conference tilts, one by a narrow margin and the other by a rout. On the Alma floor the Dutch came from behind and fought to a 63-62 victory over the Scots, while last Thursday night on the local court they battered Adrian by 88-30. A l m a , one tenders
