DOG TOYS

JEFF

Christina Nguyen | Member My experience with making dog toys for Jeff was a little frustrating at first because I had no idea what I was doing but then I got the hang of it. Once I got the hang of it I just kept going! In the end I made 12 toys and I put my own little twist to them! I cut the shirts in half so the toys would be smaller to accompany fun sized dogs

Last Thursday's event was really meaningful for both dog shelters, lower classmen, and upperclassmen. Making the dog toys was really fun especially knowing that some of us were going to donate it to a dog shelter. At first I was kind of confused making the dog toys but then I got the hang of it. On top of that, upperclassmen gave great advice for lowerclassmen but it was really funny knowing that some upperclassmen realized that they had to also follow their advice. All in all, it was a great experience talking with fellow members and getting to know them a bit better, but also being a part of this service event really helped me notice how amazing it is to do something impactful for the community.

GENERAL MEETING From the BOARD MEMBERS

To sum up my experience with Valley Key Club’s general meetings-specifically as a board member I said they’ve definitely been an interesting experience that have allowed my skills to grow. Coming from someone who originally wasn’t the most social person(at least in a formal setting) or really someone who didn’t enjoy public speaking, I believe that talking at each meeting had allowed me to leave my comfort zone and really progress in my public speaking skills and my socializing skills. In the beginning I usually do feel more nervous but as we go on with our meetings, I become more used to speaking to everyone and I am able to establish comfort. An interesting effect from speaking to members has been how I can proudly say that I SERIOUSLY understand how awkward it is for teachers whenever nobody enters back after asking a question and so that’s something that’s helped me interact with my teachers more often. Overall, I enjoy going to meetings and getting past my curiosity for who may join or what reactions we’ll receive from everyone. One of my favorite parts from all of it is the feedback. I enjoy when members will let us know what activities they enjoyed, what they believe we could do better, and also when they comment to us that they’ve been getting to know each other a little better because of something we’re ruined during a general meeting. It’s heartwarming and I think I can speak for my fellow board members when I say that the vibe we’ve created within our club during general meetings has been something so beautiful to observe as it unfolded the past month.

At first, I was worried about how general meetings would turn out because of the new school environment. No one was accustomed to participating in clubs virtually. One beauty of Key Club was the bonds created throughout the term, but I thought doing so would be difficult with the club being online. However, the turnout was a lot better than any of the board members expected. Through constant advertising, whether it be through social media or visiting multiple classrooms, we had a great first few general meetings. Even when online, members were able to engage with one another and feel welcome. Our excitement allowed the members to feel as excited and eager to participate within the club. The board is eager to come up with more general meetings, service events, fundraisers, exciting social events and bonding activities. We can't wait to see what this term brings us!
