PEAK PATHFINDERS

When Alison Dalmasso graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in biology, she knew she wanted to pursue a meaningful career. Like many college grads, however, she wasn’t exactly sure where that would lead her.

On a suggestion from family, she explored options through AmeriCorps, and saw an intriguing opening to be a member of YouthPower365’s AmeriCorps Peak Pathfinders program. Soon after, she found herself fully engaged in a brand-new place, and active in a brand-new world of making powerful contributions to youth and the community for the Vail Valley Foundation’s YouthPower365 right here in Eagle County.

Ali now provides support in academics and social and emotional learning to middle schoolers at Homestake Peak School – and the experience has been life-changing for her and the youth she serves.

“I check in with the kids I work with daily to see how they are doing,” she says. “It’s important to keep open communication, provide them with someone who listens to them, and who trusts them, and they can trust as well.

For Ali, the experience has given her a clear professional path. Now in her second year of service as a Peak Pathfinder, she has joined the new Teacher Residency program, a partnership between YouthPower365, Serve Colorado, and Colorado Mountain College, to help AmeriCorps members pursue teaching as a career. At the end of this year, Ali will secure an alternative teacher license.

“When we started the AmeriCorps program three years ago, we didn’t know where it would take us,” says YouthPower365 Executive Director Sara Amberg. “Every day I am amazed at the positive impact it is having on kids, and families, and school … and me too! I love AmeriCorps.”

Amberg says the Vail Valley Foundation's YouthPower365, with help from supporters like YOU, and strong partnerships with Eagle County Schools and Colorado Mountain College, is building the program to help inspire many more young people to join the teaching profession.

ONE OF MANY WAYS

Ali is one of 14 AmeriCorps Peak Pathfinder members in 2023-24 who bring youth, energy, excitement, and expertise to classrooms and athletic fields throughout the valley. Not all are on track to be teachers, but all are contributing immensely across all YouthPower365’s many programs, providing the type of individual attention that helps teachers, students, and families find success.

VPAC 25TH ANNIVERSARY mashin uccess

In the late 90s, only a very few believed in the bold vision of building a world-class performing arts venue in the heart of Beaver Creek Village.

Throughout the 25th anniversary season in 2022-2023, the Vilar Performing Arts Center community showed that the belief in the value of the venue, and the performing arts, is stronger than ever. We are grateful for the incredible support we’ve received from YOU, our amazing supporters, volunteers, and patrons, to continue the great legacy of this cherished epicenter of community and the arts.

The Gerald R.
