ARTS Melodious and fluent Abhinayam filled with devotion Anjal Chande, disciple of Hema Rajagopal from Bangalore performed a dance recital at Narada Gana Sabha mini hall on behalf of Gana Mukunda Priya. Bharathanatyam exponent J.S.N.Murthy, Gandhirajan, Makkalkural Editor and Ramjee were the chief guests. They appreciated the dedicated artist for her amazing abhinayam, angasudham and captivating performance. She commenced her recital with Ganesa Kowthwam in Nattai raga set to Adi in t r a d i t i o n a l w a y. S h e performed Papanasam Sivan`s Gajavadana Karuna in Sree Ranjani with
appropriate mudras. Late K.N.D.Pillai`s Mamoham than meeruthe in Nattai Kurunji ragam set to Roopaka thalam was the main item of the evening. It depicted srungara bhava of virahitha khanditha nayika. Nrutta with different movements was executed very neatly. Dramatic narration of srungara bhavam was the highlight of the evening. The movements with jumping and grace proved the stage sense and rhythm sense of the artist. The sanchara charanam, Mathe- Nee modi seyyalagumodi was detailed with dramatic narration. Annamayya`s Bhavayami Gopalabalam
depicted rasaanubhavam along with abhinaya and inspired divinity. She concluded the recital with Lalgudi`s Kaanada raga thillana. The foot work and theermanams scored a very good impression about the artiste. Subhasree Ravi rendered the jathis and handled the nattuvangam in such a way that artiste could execute it in free style. Kalaimamani Radha Badri`s voice was melodious and full of rasaanubhav. Kalaimamani T. K . P a d m a n a b h a n o n violin and Sekar R a n g a n a t h a n on mrudangam supported the danseuse with their experienced touches.

13th Week
Vignesh, disciple of music legend TVG and Rajalakshmi, performed keyboard concert at Music World, Saligramam as a part of the 13th week of Music Festival, organised by Vadapalani Times and Music World jointly. He commenced his concert with Vathapi in Hamsadhwani. The beginning with a traditional piece was a good start to the concert. Raghu vamsa sudha in Kadana kuthuhalam and Sarasasamadana in Kapinarayani were pleasant. Nada thana manisam in Chittaranjani and Thaye thripura sundari in suddha saveri ragam were enjoyable. Alapana of Kambhoji and Charukesi was done with
raga bhavam and it reflected guru`s training as well as the involvement of the child artist. O o t h u k k a d u Ve n k a t a s u b b a i a r ` s kuzhaloodi manamellam was one of the best, which stood for melody.
Saint Thiagaraja`s Adi Modi Galathe. Detailed alapana, Kalpanaswaram and neraval reflected the caliber of the artiste. Chadupulanni thelisi. Harivarasanam in Madhyamavathi set to adi thala tisra nadai, were the thukada items. Sumesh Narayanan, a class 12th student gave splendid support to Vignesh on mirudangam. Ramya Ramesh, disciple of Rajasekar on g h a t a m g a v e an impressive support. The accompanying artistes through their laya vinyasam enthralled the audience not only during the thaniavarthanam but Fluency of the artiste was throughout the entire proved in the main item - concert.

Dhan Crafts & Jewels Sreemad Ramayanam were arranged as part of the celebrations. The second phase of upanyasams on Sreemad Ramayanam concluded on April 3 at the same venue. In the discourse, the essence of the subject was conveyed with a touch of humour, giving examples from daily life and events. Upanyasakartha Kalyanaraman inserts necessary examples whenever needed and the method of upanayanam and sandhyavandanam are also detailed. as Vaamana was to remove Mahabali`s ego and protect the gods from Mahabali`s desire for Indrapadavi. The story line depicts the ethical values to be followed by one and all. The message was that one should leave ego and surrender everything to the God. Vaamanavatharam concludes with Lord giving moksham to Mahabali.
