INVEST IN YOURSELF.

WE’RE HERE TO HELP. At University Recreation & Wellbeing, we move Badgers to play hard, get fit, and live well.

Thank you for considering University Recreation & Wellbeing to support your efforts to play hard, get fit, and live well at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. We strive to inspire our students and members to practice healthy habits that lead to a life of wellbeing. Every day, thousands of people come to our facilities in pursuit of a healthier life through physical movement, social connection, fun, and in some cases, competition. Whether you wish to stay in shape, learn a new activity, connect with new friends, or improve your health, we have something for you. Stop in and see our Member Services staff to take a tour of our facilities or visit our website to learn more about our offerings. No matter what your goals are, we hope to see you soon.

JOIN THE MOVEMENT. More than 2,900 non-student members participate in our activities and services every year. Your first week is free.

We get it. Commitment can be scary. That’s why we give first-time members a free trial week to use our facilities and attend group fitness classes before purchasing a membership.

Getting started.

If you’re not sure where or how to begin, we recommend scheduling a facility tour with our Member Services staff. They’ll show you around the facility, answer your questions, and help you set up your free trial week. Send us an email at hello@recwell.wisc.edu or give us a call at (608) 262-3742 to start.

CONVENIENCE. On your own time. There’s a time and a place.

When we asked our members to describe us in one word, the most popular answer was convenience. Consider the benefits of moving your workouts to campus: we’ll be ready for you before work, during your lunch break, in between meetings, or on your way home. If time is of the essence (and when is it not?) we offer cardio equipment with preprogrammed 20-minute workouts as well as fitness classes designed specifically for the busy Badger. These shorter, higher intensity workouts will leave you feeling accomplished and reenergized for the next item on your “to do” list.

Keep it simple.

To make it even easier, we offer locker rental and towel services at the Natatorium, Shell, and Nielsen Tennis Stadium. You can also take advantage of our equipment for rent and merchandise for sale, including headphones, socks, deodorant and more. We have everything waiting for you. All you need to remember is your motivation. Related services:

> Four facilities located across campus > Convenient hours that fit your schedule > Towel and locker services > HIIT Group Fitness classes > Equipment rental > Sprint 8® workouts on Matrix treadmills

Having the Nat has made a huge difference in my overall health and wellbeing over the past 10 years. Mostly due to the affordability and convenient location close to where I work. - Member

FUN.

Can’t spell it without “u”. Get fit with friends.

We offer more than 60 Group Fitness classes each week at the Natatorium, ranging from yoga to cycling to Zumba and more. These fun and energizing group workouts will keep you motivated as you pursue your fitness goals. We are excited to offer more classes and new formats when the Nicholas Recreation Center opens in early 2020. If you’re a Campus Affiliate member, dust off those cleats and get a team together for intramural sports. We have more than 20 sports per semester, with both recreational and competitive leagues. If you can’t make it in the evenings, test your skills on the court at Noon Ball, a friendly-yet competitive game of hoops at the Nat every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Perhaps tennis is more up your alley. On our website, we have a database of potential partners, just waiting to be contacted. Game, set, match!

It’s fun to find out what you can do.

As a member, you can also participate in Open Rec, which is a chance to drop in and play in our facilities. Lift weights, improve your cardio, practice badminton, log roll in the pool — the possibilities are endless. No matter what you choose, just make sure to track your progress, because nothing beats seeing how far you’ve come. Related services:

> 60+ group fitness classes each week > 20+ intramural sports each semester > Open rec tennis, basketball, racquetball, badminton > Swimming and other aquatic adventures

PERSONAL GROWTH. Confidence looks good on you. Cross some things off your bucket list.

It’s never too late to pick up new tricks or master a new skill. Learn to swim, skate, scuba dive, or perfect your ground stroke in one of our instructional courses. Do you dream of becoming a personal trainer? We’ve got a class for that. Would you feel more comfortable knowing CPR? We’ve got a class for that, too.

The support you need to succeed.

Receive one-on-one coaching with our nationally-certified personal trainers. They will work with you to create a customized plan to help you reach your fitness goals, and they’ll be there to help you achieve them, every step of the way. Related services:

> Swimming, skating, and tennis lessons > American Red Cross courses > ACE Personal Trainer Exam Prep Course > Personal Training

YOU TIME. Allow yourself to unwind. You deserve this. How many times do you say “busy” when someone asks you how things are going? You’re not alone. It’s like there’s this unspoken permission to over-schedule ourselves, compare our plans with others, and multi-task nearly everything we do. It can be exhausting, right? We’re giving you permission to turn off that noise and focus on you. Even if it’s just a few times each week, physical activity gives us energy, helps us focus, reduces anxiety and stress, prevents sickness, and improves our ability to sleep. Most importantly, it allows us to show up more fully for the people we love.

Add more zen to your life. Our mind-body group fitness classes bring an intimate yoga and pilates experience to campus. Our classes can help you develop strength, flexibility, and balance while cultivating a more relaxed mind in a small class setting. In the summer, we partner with Allen Centennial Garden and offer yoga in the garden. What’s more zen than that? Related services:

> Group fitness classes > Open Rec

FAMILY AFFAIR. Fun designed for everyone. Bring your Junior Badgers to campus. Our summer day camp has full-day and afternoon-only options featuring field trips, recreational activities, and more. Your camper will meet new friends, explore campus, and be active in an environment where learning and fun go hand in hand. We also offer a variety of family-friendly events throughout the year, such as Day of Play, a morning of activities for K-5 students led entirely by UW-Madison students. Keep an eye on our website for more information.

Teach ‘em young. You already know that you can take lessons as a member. But did you know we also offer private tennis and ice skating lessons for youth? Our instructors will help them learn the basics and get comfortable at the net and on the ice. Related services:

> Summer Camp > Day of Play and other events > Tennis and ice skating lessons

Our son enjoyed camp and the counselors. He spoke highly of the activities and rated this one of the top summer camps he attended this year! - Summer Camp parent
