THE UWL SHAPERSCLUB OUR TEAM SPECIALIZED IN SURF PRODUCTIONS
Since 1991 we dedicate ourselves to develop surfboards and productions for our customers all over the world. The strength of our company is based on the fact that everything is possible, there are no boundaries. UWL SHAPERS CLUB is a progressive French based company committed to providing quality surfboards, apparels and communication to European Surfing Community.
WE MAKE IT HAPPEN UWL was formed to produce the best surfboards possible for the European market and with this always as our primary goal we continued to do so until now, where UWL has become the most established and successful surf company in France today. It’s also the meeting point of world class shapers (surfboards manufacturer).

Founded in 1991, in La Rochelle, by Renaud and Thomas CARDINAL, UWL is at first a small family business opened during the summer season. Originally, it was their father’s passion for surfing (one of the first surfers in La Rochelle in the 1970s) and the lack of adapted equipment which pushed them to make their own surfboards and their friends’. Quickly orders came in and supported by their parents and an unfailing passion for surfing, they quit high school to throw themselves fully into this adventure. Soon afterwards, they started travelling abroad (California, Hawaii...) to perfect their know-how and network with other professionals. Production increased year after year, so they built a very important project in 2001: they created one of the largest and most modern surf workshops in Europe.
HISTORY
1991
> Creation of UWL surfboards as a small family business
1994
> First 60m2 workshop, UWL turns into a EURL (LLC). 150 to 200 boards/year
1995-99
> Trips around the world to perfect production techniques.
2001
> Installation in the new 600m2 workshop, birth of UWL surfboards SARL (LLC).
2003
> Purchase of the first CNC
2004
> First international guest shaper: Jeff Doc Lausch / SURF PRESCRIPTION
2005
> First licensed brands Town & Country and Sharp Eye surfboards
2008
> Creation of the first UWL BIO-BOARD / EUROSIMA price
The team grew, commercials and other professionals joined the team. This new structure allowed them to develop a brand new concept: the UWL SHAPERS CLUB: they invite dozens of internationally renowned shapers and designers to the workshop for a couple of weeks a year.
2009
They Offer the best of the shaping and surfing culture worldwide to French and European surfers. With their team of master craftsmen surfboards, they build an unequalled level of quality.
2015
Today, with 1,000 hand-made surfboards built per year, UWL remains the leader and a French reference in surfboard manufacturing.
2020
> CNC changeover to the new APS 3000 technology
2010
> Creation of the UWL SHAPERS CLUB
2011
> New UWL ‘trident’ logo > Launch UWL Australia
2019
> Creation of a special epoxy unit > Creation of the fiber printing service
