UTS ROWING RESULTS UTS shine at the Sydney International Rowing Regatta. The event combined the usual Australian National Championships with a FISA World Cup Regatta (the first ever in the Southern Hemisphere) and the Australian Schools Championships. Once the regatta started it was soon clear that UTS athletes were in very good form and both the club coaches feel that the performances of everyone who raced, not just the medal winners, was exceptional. THE FINAL MEDAL TALLY FOR THE CLUB AT THE NATIONALS WAS 4 GOLD MEDALS, 4 SILVER AND 3 BRONZE.

UTS Netball & Touch Football FRAT Party

THE FRAT PARTY THE NETBALL AND TOUCH FOOTBALL CLUB KNOW HOW TO THROW A FUNDRAISING PARTY TO INTRODUCE 450 NEW AND EXISTING MEMBERS IN TO 2013.

UTS Netball ‘Social Wednesdays’ has had record numbers in the first season. What was a good 20 participants in 2012 has sky rocketed five fold, to just fewer than 100 players this season! This is a huge achievement for the club as it shows constant growth and development in its profile and talent.

The UTS Netball Club has started the year with a bang both socially and competitively, setting the club up for an amazing fifth year!

The club has increased their 13th season of ‘Mixed Sunday’ Competition moving from 12 teams to 16 to accommodate for new interest.

On the social scene, The Frat Party hit capacity of 450 people early inthe night. The event was the perfect start to the year and really helped to integrate the first year students.

Finally over the past two months the club has seen a huge influx of players, increasing the depth in the talent pool. This is fantastic as Eastern University Games is just around the corner and with extremely competitive selections it seems all three teams the club will be sending away to Wollongong are made up of talented State League Women players and athletic and experienced ‘netballing’ men.

Following on from this, the ‘Day at the Races’ that UTS Netball and Touch Football are co-hosting this coming Saturday should hopefully continue this success for the clubs on and off the fields. On a more competitive playing level, this year the

FENCERS FIRE UP FOR 2013 SEASON A SERIES OF GOOD INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCES HAS SEEN THE UTS FENCING CLUB OFF TO ANOTHER FANTASTIC START IN THE COMPETITION CALENDAR.

Club members from across all age and weapon divisions have fired up in the first series of 2013 State and Territory level competitions. Julia Lyashcenko, after a long break from fencing, has returned to form and bagged two bronze medals in the first two competitions of the year. Edison Cai, the reigning Australian Men’s Foil Champion commenced the 2013 campaign with another win in the State Season Opener Men’s Foil. Andrey Tyshskenko finished with a well-earned Bronze, while Philip Aitchison took gold in the veteran division. Other medal winning performances included Julie Seggie (Bronze in State Season Opener Open Women’s Epee); Oscar Hargreaves (Bronze in State Season Opener Open Men’s Epee), and Lachlan Fitzgerald (Bronze in Junior Men’s Epee Grand Prix 1). The club also welcomed the results of our under 11s junior fencers, Lachlan and Alisia, both completed in their first state competition and won Bronze in the Roberta Nutt Shield U/11 boys and U/11 girls respectively.

This trickles through to our intervarsity success, with UTS being ranked 4th overall in Australia at the end of 2012, and the top university in NSW. We continually look forward to reaching new heights in sporting excellence at UTS.

The cornerstones of the UTS Elite Athlete Program are flexibility, understanding and creating a supportive environment for student athletes to achieve their best. The University and UTS Union remains committed to assisting our Elite and Emerging athletes in finding that delicate balance between sport and study In the mix of athletes inducted are high profile athletes such as London 2012 Olympic Silver medalist Lucinda Whitty (Match Racing
