How do you do! Welcome all to the second edition of Playground for 2012! The year has started quickly and the social and sporting events have gone off with a bang! We all loved the freebies at O’Day and the Glasshouse Bar was packed to see Sneaky Sound System rock the room. Make sure you keep an eye out on our Facebook page for regular event updates and comps (see pg 5). This month, we’re bringing you all things British! Celebrating fads, food and famous faces, you can join in the fun at the Queen’s Birthday Bash on Friday 20 April in the Loft (KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON PARTYING!). Love her or hate her, the Queen’s Birthday gets us all a day off, so lets tip our bowler hats her way & have a cup of tea!

HELLO! As we are all well and truly back into the swing of things, now is a great opportunity to get involved with some of the fun stuff on campus. Make sure you get to the Union's Queen's Birthday Party, in her honour we will be celebrating all things British here at UTS. Make sure you take advantage of the 10% Student discount at all UTS Union food and beverage outlets and the extended trading hours at the Concourse Café and The Hub. Great services like this have been made possible because of the introduction of the Student Services Amenities Fee introduced this year along with the support of the University. BUiLD Student Society WHAT IS THE CLUB ABOUT: The club was created in 2010 to run parallel to the UTS BUiLD program, creating great student input. We run many leadership building events as well as numerous social events. What's great about the society is having members from all faculties at UTS, which makes for some great interaction!

WHEN WE MEET: We aim to meet up monthly with drink and pizza nights. Apart from that, during certain times of the year there is often weekly engagement with programs that we offer. WHY WOULD PEOPLE WANT TO JOIN: We have a big focus on student engagement and leadership building, which are much sought after traits in the workplace. There is also a diverse pool of students who provide great social and networking opportunities. QUIRKY FACT: At workshops that we run, Julia Palmer (one of our recurring speakers) is networking adviser to Sunrise presenter David Koch!
UTS Northern Suburbs Athletics Club WHAT IS THE CLUB ABOUT: UTS North’s supports a lot of the uni’s elite and social athletes, providing coaches and competition for all events and skill levels. The club competes with two seasons, a summer track season (September – April) and a winter season (April – September). Summer sees the club compete in state relays, club premiership, club championship, allcomers meets and wattle series, as well as hosting its own northern zone competition for more social athletes. In winter the club competes in the west met cross country season, road relays, cross country relays, short course champs, and a winter track series. WHY PEOPLE SHOULD JOIN: UTS North’s is the largest senior athletics club in NSW, this means we have large training squads, we are able to fill relay teams for all age groups and events and we are heavily involved in all aspects of Australian athletics.
The club is also one of the most successful in Australia, having won numerous club championships, premierships, and state relays. Over the 2011/2012 summer season UTS North’s won everything there was up for offer! By joining UTS North’s you give yourself access to some of the best coaches in Australia and a range of squads to suit the elite, the social, distance, sprints, throws, and jumps athlete. Our partnership with UTS allows us to provide free membership to UTS students and provide travel assistance to those competing at University Games.
