Overview of ActivateUTS: Formerly known as UTS Union, ActivateUTS is a non-profit organisation established over 40 years ago dedicated to enhancing the student experience during their time studying at UTS. ActivateUTS supports over 130 affiliated clubs and societies, we also bring together an array of campus facilities including great bars, cafes, retail outlets, a fitness centre, physiotherapy and also student events, clubs and societies.

Overview of the position: Reporting to the Towers Café Supervisor, Café All-rounders form part of the Towers Café team and are responsible for the day to day customer service and kitchen responsibilities of the Towers Cafe. This includes attending to customer needs and food preparation, cleaning and ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the food services areas.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

Ensure all customer service expectations are met. This includes greeting customers, providing professional service, taking orders and cash register operation

Accurate processing and management of all cash/card payments and balancing of cash register (with receipts) whilst reporting any discrepancies and problems to the manager. This includes ensuring that there are coin rolls before commencing and finishing a shift.

Ensure all areas around the register, servery and tables are clean and tidy

Food preparation for breakfast and lunch, assisting in the creation of new recipes and replenishing food supplies

Provide appropriate service to special needs customers (special dietary requirements etc.)

Comply with all Food Safety Standards and hygiene rules in preparation of foods.

Ensure all equipment is clean and in appropriate place for efficient daily use.

Monitor and implement correct workplace health and safety procedures in area of responsibility

Such other duties, within the nature and scope of the position, as may be required from time to time


Selection criteria: Essential: 

Previous experience working in a café

Previous experience in food preparation

High level customer service skills

Ability to work well as part of a team

Ability to multi task and ensure all duties are completed especially during quite times

Good communication/interpersonal skills

Ability to remain calm under pressure

Cash register and cash handling experience

Knowledge of food handling procedures

Understanding of WHS procedures

Desirable: 

May hold a Food Handling certificate

May hold Barista Certificate

Customers/Suppliers

Authority: This position is subject to direction of the Towers Catering Manager and will be required to make decisions in relation to the kitchen operations on a day to day basis.

Direct Reports: Nil Workplace health and safety You must work within Workplace Health & Safety practices and procedures; work with due care and consideration to safeguard your own health and safety, and the health and safety of others.

Terms & Conditions of Employment: Casual and part time positions available Appointment will be conditional on an initial 6 month probationary period; thereafter termination by either party will require written notice of 2 weeks.
