ActivateUTS

It is the mission of ActivateUTS to

“Enrich the UTS Community� Formally known as the UTS Union, ActivateUTS is a nonprofit organisation that was established over 40 years ago. ActivateUTS is a key strategic partner of the university and primarily a student-centered organisation that also caters for the whole UTS community, with a particular focus on the provision of programs that complement the learning and development outcomes of the University. This community includes past, present and future students, university academic and professional staff, ActivateUTS workforce (staff and volunteers, board members and club administrators), as well as the broader public and precinct community who we service and interact with.



ActivateUTS is home to an array of campus facilities including bars, cafes, retail outlets, fitness centre, function centre and the UTS Haberfield Rowing Club! We also bring you a variety of events throughout the year, and can help connect you with sporting and social clubs.


ActivateUTS is home to:

ActivateEat.Drink – all of our cafes and bars on campus. ActivateRetail – our shops on campus.

ActivateSport – our sporting, recreational and gym activities and facilities on campus.

ActivateSocial – our HQ, clubs, societies and on campus events and activities. ActivateMarketplace – the Level 3 Marketplace (food court, Towers Marketplace, ActivateHQ, The Underground).

Aerial Function Centre – our award winning function located in building 10 of UTS. UTS Haberfield Rowing Club – restaurant, bar and the home of our UTS Rowing club on Dobroyd Parade, Haberfield.

Actively engaging with students on a number of levels to enhance their university experience; Providing services and activities for students that are relevant; Supporting the University’s strategic vision and objectives through our ongoing and mutually beneficial partnership; and A culture of continuous improvement and organisational sustainability.

About

The board The Board of ActivateUTS is the body responsible for setting and delivering upon the strategic direction of the Company, ensuring strong and sound governance and for making policy decisions on all aspects of activities and operations.

The current Board is comprised of 7 Student Directors elected by students of the university

All students and University staff are encouraged to take an interest in the affairs of ActivateUTS. Elections for student positions on the Board are conducted annually by the University. Four Student Directors are elected in even-numbered years and three Student Directors are elected in odd-numbered years. Staff Directors with the skills and experience considered necessary by the University Council are appointed for a two-year term.

Action

ActivateUTS is committed to advancing gender equality. In 2016, the UTS Council approved changes to the ActivateUTS constitution to implement affirmative action.

This means that:


Voting This year 12 students have nominated to become a student director. Four positions are available with at least two of the successful candidates being women. The online polling booth opens Midnight Tuesday the 30th August and closes at 3.00pm Tuesday the 13th of September.

How to vote Voting is open to all students of UTS. You will be sent an email to your UTS student email account which contains election information and a link to the online polling booth. You can also access the online polling booth at (https://elections.uts.edu.au/). Login to vote using your UTS student number and password.

Linus Faustin Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Studying a Bachelor of Public Communication, Digital and Social Media "Linus for US" I think the board should be diverse, I am standing to represent my fellow international students. I have a wealth of experience, knowledge about Activate and the UTS community. I want see the increase of International student’s engagement, better working environment for clubs and societies, more activities and cheaper tickets.


Thomas Miletich My name is Thomas Miletich, a first year Business/Law student, and I'm one of your candidates for the Student Director position at ActivateUTS. I'm running to act upon your academic, social and sporting needs here at UTS. So take control. It’s Time for Tom – A Fresh Approach for UTS.


Samantha Read Faculty of Business Studying a Bachelor of Business As a first year student, I am eager to be more involved with UTS. If elected Student Director, I am dedicated to ensuring that ActivateUTS gives students more opportunities that allow them to develop and express their individuality. I will bring my experience of leadership and management to the role.


Kathryn (Kate) Hall Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences / Faculty of Law Studying a Bachelor of Law/ Bachelor of Communication (Social and Political Science) "Your Mate Kate" I’m nominating for the Board of ActivateUTS because I’m passionate about engaging all students with the rich university experience ActivateUTS facilitates. I seek to achieve this through strengthening ActivateUTS Clubs so that they may reach out and connect students of similar talents, interests and passions.


Taylor Ficcara I’m Taylor Ficarra and I’m running to make you Feel Good about your ActivateUTS! I love UTS and I want to give back to my UTS community - I want to work with clubs and societies to create bigger and better events, student tailored choices at Activate outlets, and more.


Rebecca Kershaw Event Management Studying a Masters of Event Management I am running for student director to ensure that future social events & clubs will be diverse and well thought out so that each and every one of you get to fully immerse yourselves in the university experience, no matter where your interests may lie.


Jessica Massih Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology Studying a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil and Environmental) (Honours), Diploma in Professional Engineering Practice "JESS We Can"! I’m running for a position on the ActivateUTS Student Board because I believe in ongoing student development. If elected, I plan to work towards a more diverse range of services and activities offered by ActivateUTS and enable accessibility to a wider support network for students through development and leadership programs.


Emily Hazell Faculty of Science Studying a Bachelor of Advanced science- Pre Medicine "Have an EMazing time at UTS- Vote (1) Emily Hazell" I am standing for the board of Activate UTS to help create a social and enjoyable university experience for everyone. I intend on working on smaller clubs and societies, as well as social and sporting events, so that there is something for all.


Robert Stephenson Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology Studying a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical and Mechatronics) with Diploma in Engineering Practice "Change is coming" As a long standing student of UTS, I understand the need for transparency, the need for a voice‌and most importantly‌ the need for change! Nhu (Nancy) Do Faculty of Business Studying a Bachelor of Accounting "Nhu (Nancy) Do" I am standing for the director position because I believe it is vital as a community that we have access to valuable programs and services to support our continual learning and growth. As a director I intend on fulfilling this goal by working towards creating greater connections internally and externally.
