ATHLETICS Jhonny Theze ’23 Hometown: Bronx, NY Major: Business Management Jhonny Theze has made quite a first impression. The UC men’s soccer team began the season 9-2-2, setting a school record for the best start to a season, and the freshman was a central figure in the Pioneers’ success. Theze, who immigrated to the U.S. following the 2010 earthquake in his native Haiti, has led UC in goals and points, setting a new school mark for goals by a freshman and quickly establishing himself as one of the most prolific scorers in the Empire 8 Conference. Head coach Brian Marcantonio says the midfielder’s impact on his team cannot be measured in statistics alone. “He’s one of the most talented freshmen I’ve ever seen,” he says. “As much as he’s scoring goals, he opens up opportunities for other guys. He draws so much attention defensively. He’ll get (the ball), intentionally draw two or three defenders, and then release to others.”
