October 2010

Happy American Pharmacists Month! The College of Pharmacy celebrated American Pharmacists’ Month with seminars, patient care clinics and educational activities for student organizations, along with a huge calendar of events that engaged students in their future professions and recognized their accomplishments. Hopefully, your month has been just as exciting and productive!

Preceptors of the Year The College of Pharmacy selected its Preceptors of the Year for the BSPS and PharmD programs. The BSPS Preceptor of the Year award was presented to Dr. L. M. Viranga Tillekeratne at the college’s annual Convocation on October 28, 2010. Dr. Tillekeratne, an associate professor of medicinal and biological chemistry, has mentored BSPS students in his laboratory during each semester for the last four years. He has supervised BSPS students on their honors projects, and has been a staunch supporter of the program by writing grants to obtain remuneration for BSPS students in his lab as well. The PharmD Preceptor of the Year award was presented to Dr. Valerie Householder , PharmD ‘03, who is a pharmacist at the University of Toledo Medical Center. Dr. Householder was featured in an article in UT News for receiving this honor. Read more

Donors who make a gift of $2010 or more will receive a 10x12” artistic montage of the College of Pharmacy’s past and current locations. New Mortar & Pestle Society members will receive a 20x22”montage with a piece of Lannon stone, as seen on the façade of Wolfe Hall, and glass, as seen on the façade of the new pharmacy facility.
