SEASON REVIEW KAINER’S RECORD-BREAKING HIT STREAK SNAPPED AT 36 GAMES Andrew Kainer’s UTA and Southland Conference hitting streak record was snapped at 36 games a day after going 4-for-4 and breaking the UTA single-season doubles record (23). Kainer went hitless against Lamar (May 9) ending his streak that began two months before. His streak began on March 7, during game two of the Mavs’ first conference series at Sam Houston State. His 36-game streak included a .455 (66-for-145) batting average, 29 runs scored, 19 doubles, three home runs, 35 RBI, nine walks and 13 stolen bases. He posted 21 multi-hit games during the streak, including seven games with three or more hits. In addition, Kainer’s streak spanned 38 team games, due to Kainer not recording an official plate appearance during the Mavs’ 10-inning, 6-5 win over Nicholls (3/29). Kainer left that game in the bottom of the first inning after diving for a ball in the right-center field gap and left the game due to an injury. Kainer then sat out the following game on the road at TCU (4/1). KNOCKING OFF BIG 12 OPPONENTS IN ARLINGTON UT Arlington defeated a pair of ranked-Big 12 opponents in 2009 in games played at Clay Gould Ballpark. The Mavs knocked off No. 17 Oklahoma 8-5 (5/5) and No. 7 Baylor 5-4 (4/14). Dating back to 2008, UTA has won four of its last five at home against Big 12 teams.
