Communication Studies and Theatre Secondary Education Certification All of the aforementioned program goals apply with the addition of the following: 1. To develop a competent knowledge of the discipline and the ability to apply it in the middle and secondary school classroom. Vocational Applications: The teaching of speech communication, or theatre, or both is the vocational goal for students in this program. Requirements: In addition to meeting the liberal arts core requirements of the University, the student will complete a program of courses totaling at least 44 semester hours. The specific requirements of teacher certification must also be met (see Education in Bachelor's Degree Programs section). Also, the student will be required to participate in co-curricular experiences as they relate to their needs and goals. Teaching majors are strongly recommended to consider a minor or a second major in the field of English. The student must complete the required core courses and choose at least one concentration of at least 9 s.h.
