Set at the foothills of the Himalayas, Haridwar, the sacred city is a main tourist destination where the Ganga reaches the plains. Haridwar has earned the most spiritual name “Gateway of the Gods" that takes you to the other Himalayan pilgrimage shrinesRishikesh, Badrinath and Kedarnath.

Today, it is counted as the most religious spot in India which has gained the highest tourism. One of the most traditional festivals, celebrated in Haridwar is Kumbha Mela which takes place which in twelve years. Besides it, Haridwar is dotted with countless temples like the Gorakhnath temple with a magnificent structure donated to Guru Gorakhnath. The Kankhal temples have a distinctive importance include the Daksha Mahadev Temple, Birbhadreshwar Temple.

Another most popular Mansa Devi Temple is believed to fulfill the wishes of her devotees. It is dedicated to the Goddess Mansa Devi.

On the other hand, Sati Kund in Haridwar has a religious importance. Legend said that Daksh Prajapati, the father of Sati, performed a Yagna here and Lord Shiva was not invited to attend it, Sati felt insulted, as a result, burnt herself in the Yagna Kund at this place.

The Gurukul Kripa University is another elite attraction in Haridwar, famous for its old tradition of Guru-Sishya prototype of education. There is a Ved Mandir Museum in this institution that has a huge display of fine collection of artifacts and archaeological objects. If you have keen interest in watching birds, you must visit to Neel Dhara Pakshi Vihar which is dotted with number of migratory birds. During winters, one can have a look on a Siberian Crane, an exotic type of bird that is rarely found in other parts of India Holidyas.
