Best Time to Visit Char Dham

The Chardham Yatra is one of the holiest pilgrimages undertaken by Hindus. As the name suggests, it comprises visiting four holy spots or shrines, which have mythological and religious significance. These are Badrinath, Yamunotri, Gangotri, and Kedarnath. According to the Hindu scriptures, a visit to these four divine places will absolve one of all sins and free them from the cycle of birth and death.

All four shrines are located at high altitudes in the majestic Himalayas. One needs to plan the trip properly depending on the purpose of the visit. While most of the tourists are pilgrims, recently there has been an influx of people who want to see the scenic beauty surrounding the area or indulge in activities like trekking. The best time to visit Chardham if you are a pilgrim would be from May to October since Char-Dham

Yatra opens only for these six months. The monsoon and extreme winter months must be avoided by all since this region receives heavy rainfall and snow.

Summers are the best time to visit Chardham. The summer months last from March to June and are extremely pleasant. Pilgrims can easily trek the arduous journey to the shrines. Also, a good time to revel in the scenic beauty the four Dhams have to offer. The average temperature is around 18 degrees.

The winter months (November to February) can be quite harsh due to the high altitude of the Chardhams. The days are chilly with an average minimum temperature touching nearly 5°C. One may visit in early November or late February to enjoy the white snowy landscape and experience the winter chill.

The monsoon months, which last from July to October are best avoided as this region receives heavy rainfall. It is also a landslide-prone area and flash floods may occur. The average temperature drops down to 15°C. Then again one may visit during the start or end of the rainy season to avoid the crowds and watch the hills covered in lush greenery.

The Chardham, besides being an important center of pilgrimage, is also blessed with ample natural beauty. Tourists and pilgrims are both enthralled by the panoramic views and the holy aura that seems to envelop the place. Visiting the Chardham is truly a mesmerizing experience.
