NAMING OPPORTUNITIES

COLLEGE OF NURSING

SATELLITE CLINICAL EDUCATION BUILDING AT LEXINGTON MEDICAL CENTER

SOLVING THE NURSING WORKFORCE SHORTAGE

A 52,000-SQUARE-FOOT STATE-OF-THE-ART NURSING SIMULATION CENTER AND TEACHING SPACE.

Lexington Medical Center and College of Nursing’s public-private partnership is boosting ties in nursing.

A 52,000-square-foot state-of-the-art nursing simulation center and teaching space will be built on the hospital’s campus to provide clinical training for USC’s growing nursing student population. The project, funded by LMC, will be completed by 2024 and is estimated to cost $20 million.

With the new space at LMC, USC will be able to graduate 400 pre licensure nurses per year in the Midlands — an 80% increase annually. The new building will be used primarily for clinical training of the university’s third- and fourth-year nursing bachelor’s students as well as master’s program students. The university’s health sciences interprofessional education program also will use classroom space. The facility is expected to open for the first cohort of nursing students in fall 2024 with its groundbreaking in February 2023.

Our innovative partnership with Lexington Medical Center is great news for South Carolina residents, who will directly benefit from the training we provide to future nurses.

CENTER FOR SIMULATION AND EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING 1 MILLION

Most innovative teaching techniques and tools are available through simulation—an immersive teaching modality that replicates clinical scenarios in realistic practice environments. Students function within the full scope of practice, engaging in decision-making and interventions that only licensed registered nurses can do in patient care settings.

ACUTE CARE SUITE SIM CENTER

250 K

This replicates a typical hospital room and can be adapted for hospitalized adults or children. The suite holds rooms that can be transitioned from an intensive care unit room to a long term care facility bedroom to a home or community setting

PRIMARY CARE SUITE SIM CENTER

200 K

Students learn how to care for and communicate with patients and families, and then discuss decisions made after the clinic encounter.

SKILLS SUITE SIM CENTER

250 K

A designated section in the center where students will learn and practice skills. Students will undergo several weeks of skills training during their first semester, taking care of real patients in the clinical environment.

SKILLS TRAINING ROOM

75 K

EACH (3 TOTAL)

Space for students to practice clinical skills with center debriefing area. One room will have movable tracks to update the scenery to simulate care in multiple settings outside the hospital.

ACUTE CARE SIMULATION ROOM

100 K

EACH (8 TOTAL)

These simulation rooms are dedicated to instructing students through simulated scenarios. Through simulation, students may safely learn proper intervention during a crisis.

PRIMARY CARE ROOM

50 K

EACH (8 TOTAL)

These simulation rooms are dedicated to instructing students through simulated scenarios in ambulatory and primary care settings.

DEBRIEFING ROOM SIM CENTER

50 K EACH (5 TOTAL)

Debriefing is considered the most important part of the simulation event. Each room has white boards and large, flat screen TV’s for video playback.

CLASSROOM 125 K

EACH (3 TOTAL)

A variety of settings, from the traditional classroom setting to innovative spaces, fostering critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills. This learning space provides the ability to deliver effective training to large groups, with the flexibility to break into smaller rooms for other interactive learning activities.

CLASSROOM SEAT 400

PER SEAT

(WITH PLATE ON BACK – 500 IN CLASSROOMS AND 60 IN COLLABORATORY)

State of the art learning technology, flexible furniture for small group case study, rooms can be opened to each other for interprofessional education and event space. This is a great way to honor a nurse, alumni, student or loved one.

COLLABORATORY 125 K

Faculty utilize document cameras to project topics throughout the room. The setup of the room also allows faculty to implement class-wide collaboration and smaller group work, while integrating video, audio and patient images such as CT scans and X-rays.

STUDENT STUDY SPACE

30 K

EACH (4 ) FIRST FLOOR

A combination of soft seating (lounge seating, couches, and sofas) and hard seating. These interaction spaces allow students to be near other students who are working on similar projects, or near the classrooms, labs or faculty offices.
