USA National Team Center and City of Anaheim USA Volleyball and the City of Anaheim are pleased to announce the agreement to bring the U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team to Anaheim from Colorado Springs was finalized in April 2009. The agreement also designates Anaheim as the Exclusive Official Host City for the USA Men’s and Women’s National Volleyball Teams through 2016. The team trains at the USA National Team Center within the American Sports Centers in Anaheim. 25-13 in the bronze-medal match after suffering a four-set loss to Dominican Republic in the semifinal round. The U.S. defeated Peru, Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago and Costa Rica in straight sets to open Pool B before losing a heart-breaking 28-30, 25-18, 25-19, 17-25, 15-11 match to world top-ranked Brazil in the final pool match. The U.S. went on to defeat Argentina 25-13, 25-14, 25-19 in the quarterfinal, which secured a berth into the 2012 FIVB World Grand Prix as one of the top four NORCECA teams in the tournament. EARLIER THIS YEAR: The U.S. placed fourth at the Montreux Volley Masters held June 7-12 at Montreux, Switzerland. The Americans opened with a four-set victory over Peru on June 7. After a Montreux off-day exhibition match victory over host nation Switzerland on June 8, the U.S. topped Germany in five sets on June 9. China won a five-set battle over Team USA to win Pool A on June 10. The U.S. dropped a four-set match to NORCECA rival Cuba on June 11 in the semifinal round, then lost a second time to China in a four-set bronze-medal match on June 12. LAST YEAR: The Americans are coming off a 28-13 record in 2010, a 10-victory increase over their 1814 record in 2009 to start the Olympic quadrennial. After the U.S. earned the silver medal at the 2010 Montreux Volley Masters, it captured the bronze medal at the Pan American Cup. In both events, the U.S. used a split squad with balance toward both youth and veterans. After a month of training back at the American Sports Centers in Anaheim, Calif., the U.S. Women’s National Team used an 11-match win streak to cap the 2010 FIVB World Grand Prix, winning the gold medal with an undefeated record in the Final Round. Foluke Akinradewo was named the Most Valuable Player and Best Blocker, while Alisha Glass earned Best Setter in her first senior FIVB event. Destinee Hooker, playing in her first FIVB event despite only four weeks of training with the National Team, was the tournament’s fourth-leading scorer. After a four-match friendly exhibition series in Brazil, the U.S. started the FIVB World Championship strong by winning its first-round pool with a 5-0 record. The Americans reached the World Championship semifinal round despite losses to Italy and Brazil in the second round. The U.S. lost a four-set match to eventual champions Russia in the semifinals, then had a heart-breaking five-set loss to host Japan in the bronzemedal match to finish fourth. 2011 DATAVOLLEY STAT LEADERS: Jordan Larson (Hooper, Neb.) is the leading U.S. scorer in 2011 based on unofficial DataVolley statistics. She has scored 120 points for 2.67 points per set. Nicole Fawcett (Zanesfield, Ohio) has added 113 points with a 3.14 scoring average, while Jennifer Tamas (Milpitas, Calif.) has scored 106 points as part of a 2.16 scoring average, 54.4 kill percent and .456 hitting efficiency. Megan Hodge (Durham, N.C.) holds a team-leading 4.05 scoring average with 85 points in just the Pan American Cup, while Tayyiba Haneef-Park (Laguna Hills, Calif.) averaged 3.57 points per set in the Montreux Volley Masters. Foluke Akinradewo (Plantation, Fla.) held a .509 hitting efficiency and 55.7 kill percent as part of a 3.20 scoring average at the Pan American Cup. She also has a team-high 0.72 block average. Nancy Metcalf (Hull, Iowa) produced a 63.5 kill percent and .538 hitting efficiency in limited action at the Pan American Cup. Nicole Davis (Stockton, Calif.) has average 3.29 digs per set as the libero in both tournaments this season. As a team, the U.S. has a .295 hitting efficiency in 2011 with a 43.2 kill percent. The Americans are averaging 1.15 aces and 2.96 blocks per set, while holding opponents to a .174 hitting efficiency and averages of 0.73 aces and 2.02 blocks per set. UPCOMING TOURNAMENTS: Following the FIVB World Grand Prix, the Americans will compete in the NORCECA Women’s Continental Championship (Sept. 10-18), the Pan American Games (Oct. 14-20) and the FIVB World Cup (Nov. 4-18) should they qualify through the NORCECA Continental Championship. In January 2012, the U.S. will compete in the NORCECA Olympic Qualification Tournament (Jan. 6-14) if it does not secure one of the three 2012 Olympic Games qualifying spots at the FIVB World Cup.
