Network – Who Do You Know? 8. Research various Vacancy Announcements on USAJOBS and include accomplishments. 9.Analyze Your Core Competencies. 10. Know what key words are essential by highlighting them prior to applying. 11. Use an Outline Format and Paper Format Federal Resumes. 12. Things to Consider When Developing a Resume for Spouses 1. Age / Sex / Marital Status They do not need to be included or have an impact on your ability to perform the job. 2. Political or Religious Affiliations No need to place an unnecessary obstacle in your in path nor should be considered relevant. 3. Hobbies / Leisure Activities Unless these have a strict bearing on the job you are currently applying for or if they positively strengthen your resume this would be considered unnecessary information. 4.Voluntary Work Not all volunteerism should be reflected on your resume unless it contributes in strengthening your employment possibilities. 5. Employer Information It is not necessary to include the name of your direct Supervisor or Manager, their telephone number or address. If required the employer will

ask for it! 6. References Consider using a separate sheet since the employer may or may not request references. Or, requested as your application progresses to the final stages. 7. Jargon Be conscious of your use of jargon, everyday language to you perhaps but meaningless to the person reading the resume generally. It demonstrates poor judgement to leave it in and will ensure your resume is placed in the bin. 8. Financial Remuneration Do not include details of your payment expectations. This information will do two things, undersell you or overprice you. 9. Reasons for Leaving Previous employment Take some good advice and just don’t do it, not in your resume, not at interview, quite simply not ever. 10. Employment gaps Explain away gaps in employment as without an explanation an employer may jump to the wrong conclusions. 11. Lies Deceit will always catch up with you. If there are areas that you prefer not to disclose, omit them entirely or be sparing with the truth, just don’t lie. 12. Ambitions Leave it off your resume, use it during the interview since it could lead to the wrong message about your intentions! For additional information call 305.437.2639, email: joe.pagan1.civ@mail.mil.

Dollars & $ense - Let’s Talk Money This is the second of many financial articles that will run in the Bugle Boy, and I hope you will learn something about how money and credit can be used to build prosperity.

Some of you may think you are better off than your parents just because you now have a few dollars in your Armani wallet or Louis Vuitton handbag. No grasshopper, you are not, and here is why: Keeping up with the Joneses or Kardashians is an expensive endeavor and at the end of the day, meaningless. When one of our community members visits my office and requests financial counseling, my first questions are, “Which state in the United States do you consider as home? Which parent was the saver? Which parent was the spender?” The intervention answer is to have an honest financial conversation about how money and credit works in America. Please remember, and I am not trying to be disrespectful, but if your credit score is low and you possess the bare minimum in your checking account, then you represent one of the millions of Americans who are paying high interest rates on loans and your interest payments are going to service members who invest in the TSP F-Fund. In order words, your high interest payments are paying other service members who save and invest car payments, retirement years European vacations, and little Donald’s college tuition. Pleasure now adult toys and vacations placed on a credit card may affect your retirement years’ standard of living. I am not ashamed to say that my mother was the saver who taught this old Soldier, and now financial adviser, how to save money. She kept my family from living paycheck-to-paycheck or from living down by the Cape Fear River in cardboard boxes. If you are being responsible with your money, then you have developed a savings and investing plans that are both realistic and achievable.

Samuel D Coston, Financial Why am I asking you Readiness Advisor to read these financial articles? Why does anyone cross a road, develop a goal, look at the stars at night and ask why? To find the answers to life’s why me or why not me. Because at the end of the day, achieving financial literacy and financial security are both priceless!

There are people who are smarter than you, who are better looking than you, and who are better educated than you. Nevertheless, you have the final say about how your money, your funds, are used or not used! If you desire a financial conversation about how your money should be working for you, or a financial hug, I am here. But, at the end of the day…at the end of the DAY, you are the keeper of your financial keys, you are the decider, you are the King or Queen of your money domain, stop me now fellow service members, retirees, and brothers and sisters if I am not speaking the truth and nothing but the truth!

A large percentage of military members are from

“Know what you owe and Know why you owe it!”
