ABOUT AISB AISB’S COMMUNITY AISB was founded in 1962 by the US Embassy to serve the educational needs of the American and international expatriate community. As the school has grown, many local Romanian families have become part of the school community together with expatriate families from government, business, and social welfare organizations.
AISB’S FACULTY AISB is committed to high standards of achievement, as exemplified by a highly qualified faculty who have continuous access to current instructional materials and teaching strategies. The school actively supports and encourages the professional growth of its faculty and staff. ACCREDITATION AISB is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the Council of International Schools for grades K-12, and is authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization to offer the IB Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Programs.
AISB has a richly diversified population of approximately 830 students from 53 nationalities attending Early Childhood 3 through Grade 12. Romanians comprise approximately 28% of the student population, North American 18%, Israel 6%, Germany and Korea 4% each. The balance are from Europe, Asia, Africa, Middle East, Australia, South and Central America. AISB’S FACILITIES Our campus covers ten hectares (about 25 acres), and offers state of the art facilities to our students, including a performing arts theater/ auditorium, library & media center, three computer labs, cafeteria, gymnasiums and extensive sports facilities. The campus is located in the Baneasa forest area, approximately 10 km from the center of Bucharest and 13 km from the Henri Coanda International Airport.

ABOUT AISB / PTO The PTO is an organization of parents and teachers whose goal is to support the education of AISB students by fostering relationships among the school, parents, and teachers. The PTO strives for continued parental involvement to help build a better educational environment for our children. We provide resources to assist teachers and administration in doing their best work. Through fund raising, the PTO is able to donate funds to purchase equipment for the school. We are also involved in efforts to help the local community.

Message from the director
EN Dear AISB Community,
It is with pride and pleasure that this letter welcomes you to the Annual PTO Auction Gala. Over the years, the Gala has been one of the highlights of our school community programs and we are most proud and thankful for your continued dedication and support of all of our students and the wider Romanian community. This year’s PTO Auction Gala, like the many that have preceded it, has one clear objective – supporting children; those currently attending AISB, and also those students who will be earning a place on our competitive scholarship program. To help reach that objective, the proceeds of this year’s Gala will be used in two key ways:
1. AISB Scholarship Program – The
PTO has continuously supported

De-a lungul anilor, Gala a fost unul dintre evenimentele culminante în cadrul comunităţii şcolii noastre şi suntem mândri şi recunoscători pentru implicarea dumneavoastră şi pentru sprijinul pe care îl acordaţi, şi în acest fel, elevilor noştri şi comunităţii româneşti. În acest an, ca şi în anii precedenţi, Gala de strângere de fonduri are un scop bine definit – susţinerea copiilor; cei care sunt deja elevi ai AISB şi, de asemenea, acei elevi care vor fi admişi în cadrul programului nostru de burse. Pentru atingerea acestui scop, veniturile de la Gala acestui an vor merge către două destinaţii majore: 1. Programul de Burse AISB - Asociaţia de Părinţi şi Profesori a sprijinit în mod constant programul de
the AISB scholarship program for many years and made a meaningful difference in the lives of highly qualified students from the local Romanian community. These are students who would otherwise be unable to afford our tuition and fees. Through the scholarship program, they have an opportunity to study at AISB, earn the IB Diploma, and prepare for a brighter future.
2. Since the program began in 1999,
we have been able to provide scholarships for 35 students, 34 of whom are Romanian citizens. They have excelled as valedictorians, salutatorians, service leaders, artists, and athletes, and have made a positive difference in the AISB Community.
3. PTO Grant Request Fund – The
invaluable program created by the
burse de-a lungul mai multor ani, influenţând astfel semnificativ viaţa elevilor care ating anumite standarde din comunitatea locală românească. Aceştia sunt elevi ai căror familii nu ar avea altfel posibilitatea de a acoperi taxele de şcolarizare la AISB. Prin intermediul programului de burse, li se oferă posibilitatea să studieze la AISB, să obţină Diploma de Bacalaureat Internaţional şi să se pregătească pentru un viitor mai bun. 2. De la începutul acestui program în 1999, am fost în măsură să oferim burse pentru 35 de elevi, dintre care 34 sunt români. Ei s-au remarcat ca şefi de promoţie, au excelat în diverse domenii, s-au evidenţiat în programul de muncă în folosul comunităţii, în domeniul artei şi sportului, aducându-şi o contribuţie importantă în comunitatea noastră. 3. Fondul PTO de Subvenţii – Acest program atât de important, care a fost creat de Asociaţia de Părinţi şi Profesori, contribuie la finanţarea de proiecte care nu se încadrează în

Dear AISB Families and Friends, Welcome to our Annual PTO Auction Gala, our most important fund raising event. Our volunteers have worked ceaselessly and with passion the past few months to prepare and plan the most anticipated event of the year for the AISB community. Your presence and generous support enables us to make the biggest gift of all – a future! Part of the funds collected goes to the Scholarship Endowment Fund, for highly qualified students from the local community, providing bright boys and girls of Romania the opportunity to attend AISB. These students enhance the overall level of

Prezenţa şi ajutorul dumneavoastră generos ne îngăduie să oferim cel mai de preţ dar posibil, şi anume – viitorul! O parte din fondurile strânse va fi donată către Fondul de Acordare a Burselor, dedicat elevilor extrem de talentaţi ce fac parte din comunitatea locală. Many of these activities are designed, lead, and implemented by students, through which they expand their life experiences even further to the academic program. We support a variety of student Community, Action and Services projects, the AISB Library & Media Center, Destination Imagination, Mother Tongue Program, and Vampire Soccer Academy. We also fund the Guest Artist program that brings professional artists, writers, directors, actors and musicians into

MARK JENNER / AUCTIONEER
CORTEZ
Marc Jenner is a leading charity consultant and an accomplished auctioneer. He has undertaken projects for some of Europe’s biggest NGO’s, as well as organizations in the USA. Since moving to Romania in 2010, he has conducted auctions for numerous events both here, and in Serbia and Moldova.
Cortez has a passion for music! Their backgrounds in jazz, rock, alternative music and theater blend together for a great sound. They are popular performers at Bucharest’s Music Club and the Hard Rock Cafe, and at the numerous concerts they perform throughout Romania.
Marc also works within sports broadcasting, and has recently returned from the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. A keen marathon runner, he volunteers as the Start/Finish Manager at the annual Bucharest International Marathon and also represents the Bucharest Barbarian rugby team.
PETRU CALINESCU Petru Calinescu is a versatile singer/ songwriter based in Bucharest. Petru discovered his passion for music and theatre during his time as a student at AISB (Class of 2005). He honed his craft at the prestigious Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (graduating in 2011). Petru’s music career has already seen notable achievements. He composed the official anthem for Europa FM’s 2013 charity campaign “Nu Esti Singur Pe Lume,” which featured a selection of Romania’s best-known singers. His song “Broken Heart,” performed by Maximilian Muntean, reached the 2013 Eurovision National Semifinal stage. As a performer, Petru has been a special guest singer at Loredana’s 2012 and 2013 concerts at Sala Palatului, to great reviews. Petru is currently working on his debut album. He performs regularly, both as a solo vocalist, and with his band “Green Tea”, in a variety of musical genres. Be sure to check out his latest updates on Facebook, YouTube & Sound Cloud.

BOGDAN BARA Bogdan Bara has been a DJ since 2003. He plays all music genres so that everyone has a chance to enjoy themselves. He did his “DJ practice” in music clubs, where he played rock, oldies, hip-hop, dance and traditional music. He has also played music at over 200 private events.

GENERAL AUCTION GUIDELINES 1. Upon arrival, register to receive your bid number and paddle. 2. Use this number and paddle to bid on all items. 3. Pay for all of your winnings* and take them with you upon departure from the Gala. 4. The Gala Committee will not be held responsible for any items left at the end of the evening.

AUCTION RULES 1. Silent Auction bids must respect stated minimum bid and stated minimum increment, or they may be disqualified. Bids may not be withdrawn. Highest bid at 20:00 wins. 2. In case of a dispute, the Auction Committee will determine the winning bidder. The decision will be final. 3. The Auctioneer may specify a minimum bid for any Live Auction item, and may remove an item if it doesn’t receive sufficient bids. The winner will be the highest bidder upon the fall of the Auctioneer’s gavel, and the Auctioneer will make the final decision on any dispute. 4. All bids using your number are binding offers for which you are financially responsible. 5. All items, however described, are sold “as is.” Some items have black-out dates or other restrictions, which the committee will not mediate. All sales are final and items may not be exchanged or returned to the Gala or merchants. Some items are non-transferable. 6. You are expected to leave the Gala with all items you have won, except by prior arrangement with the Auction Committee. GAMING GUIDELINES Gaming Tables Information In the spirit of Monte Carlo, the 2014 PTO Gala will feature two gaming tables for your enjoyment: • one blackjack table and • one roulette table.
The tables will be open from 18:00 – 20:00 1. Guests who wish to play may do so by making a cash donation to the Gala. 2. To participate, please make your cash donation to the Gala cashier, who will provide you with an equivalent amount of “funny money” that you will give to the gaming table dealer in exchange for your chips (RON 50 for 5 chips and/ or RON 100 for 10 chips). The top three players, those who accumulate the most chips by the close of the tables at 20:00, will be allowed to choose from the gaming prizes being offered.

Recycled Junk Portraits What do Marilyn Monroe, John Lennon and The Mona Lisa all have in common with AISB First Grade? They all have portraits created in their image using recycled materials! The difference is, our first graders produced these personal self portraits themselves!

Watercolor & Metallic portraits Using these two disciplines of creative artwork, we see the innovative 2nd grade brains and hands hard at work. These amazing pieces reflect the souls of AISB’s budding artists.
3rd Grade
Collaged Portraits Collage art is created by using numerous materials such as paper, newsprint, photographs, ribbons or other objects that are glued onto the artist’s blank paper. Originating from the French word “coller” meaning glue, the collage lets our 3rd graders experiment with a wide range of materials to achieve amazing results!
