UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO POWERING UP THE NEXT GENERATION

University of Toronto Rowing Club (UTRC) team wins silver medal in the Men’s 8+ at the 1924 Olympic Games.

PROLOGUE For more than 100 years, the University of Toronto Rowing Club (UTRC) has had a long-standing tradition of inspiring our student-athletes to compete at the highest levels possible in the sport that they hold dear. Over the decades the team has experienced high levels of success and at times, struggled to survive. UTRC athletes and alumni have won University Championships, international regatta titles and Olympic gold medals. The club's alumni include some of the most iconic names in Canadian rowing, the arts, politics and industry. Generations of student-athletes have shared the common experience of cold early mornings on Lake Ontario, the sacrifice and the reward, the victories and defeats. Times of great achievement have been reached when the stars truly aligned: when the combination of motivated athletes, dedicated coaches and financial resources have propelled the club to accomplish much more than most would have thought possible. We are now in that unique position again and it is time to shoot for the moon.

THE GOAL The goal is to provide financial support that will enable us to rebuild the great rowing tradition at the University of Toronto. The Alumni Committee will launch a fund raising campaign, in partnership with the Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education, to create revenue streams that will sustain a high-performance rowing program at U of T. Elements include: »» Superior leadership from a full-time head coach and a dedicated staff of volunteer assistant coaches. »» A renewed fleet of shells for both training and competition. »» Access to sport science services. »» A competition schedule that will attract talented recruits. »» Development of high performance crews for provincial, national and international competitions, including the Henley Royal Regatta and Head Of The Charles. »» Operating support from the Faculty. »» Build a model for lifetime engagement of students and alumni.
