BE A PART OF CANADA’S PREMIER ENGINEERING SCHOOL

WORK WITH AND LEARN FROM THE BEST IN YOUR FIELD

TACKLE THE WORLD’S MOST IMPORTANT ISSUES

U of T Engineering is ranked as the top engineering school in the country, year after year, by every major ranking organization. These standings also put U of T among other world-class institutions. For you, this means working and learning with the best students and researchers in a multidisciplinary environment. Collaboration extends far beyond campus; our rapidly growing list of partnerships is a testament to the impact of our research and innovation.

You will work with the finest engineers, entrepreneurs and industry experts in the world at the University of Toronto. Of all the international and national awards received by engineering professors across Canada, faculty from U of T Engineering consistently garner more than a quarter. We are home to innovators who contribute to and expand research capacity in areas that are integral to Canada’s growth.

U of T Engineering is a centre of remarkable innovation and boundless possibility. Our graduate students are creating solutions that make a positive difference in the world — from improving human health to developing sustainable technologies. Our research hubs, including the Centre for Research in Healthcare Engineering, Centre for Global Engineering and Centre for Sustainable Energy provide collaborative environments that inspire important solutions to critical problems.

MICHELLE HANBIDGE, an MHSc candidate, was struck by the outstanding opportunities U of T graduate students have to work with people that are global leaders in the engineering profession. “In less than a year at U of T, I have had discussions with international experts, toured world-class healthcare facilities and worked in Boston at Massachusetts General Hospital,” says Michelle.

PhD candidate JAMES DOU and his supervisor, Professor Stewart Aitchison, developed an affordable and efficient lab-on-a-chip that could revolutionize HIV monitoring in developing countries. This invention will eliminate the need for those affected by HIV to travel gruelling distances for testing. To bring the device to market, James and Professor Aitchison started ChipCare Corp.

“I value quality research and a collaborative environment,” says PhD candidate KIMIA GHOBADI. Her research involves developing mathematical models and algorithms to optimize radiation therapy treatment for patients with brain cancer. “The affiliations U of T has with top hospitals and institutions makes my experience an excellent combination of theory and application.”

As an MASc student, ANGELA LEE helped her peers develop their leadership skills while enhancing her own. She served as the Seminar Director for Leaders of Tomorrow: Graduate where she implemented a program to promote leadership among engineering students. In 2011, she received the coveted Gordon Cressy Leadership Award from U of T for her contributions.

JAKE GREGORY, a graduate of the MEng program, found that networking was the key to his success. “I joined several groups as an MEng student, including the Graduate Management Consulting Association (GMCA). Through a connection I made at a GMCA event, I landed my current job at Deloitte as an analyst in management consulting,” says Jake.

An international student from Thailand, PhD candidate PISEK KULTAVEWUTI enjoys life in Toronto. Pisek says, “After working in the lab, I sometimes take in musical performances at the theatre or try my hand at singing karaoke in Koreatown. I really like Toronto and its seasons. I play beach volleyball in the summer and ski in the winter.”
