11TH CENTURY TOWER AND CASTLE On a hilltop, some 1200m from the main road to Perugia, this medieval castle complex sits surrounded by ancient woodlands. The birthplace of renaissance hero Federico da Montefeltro, Duke of Urbino in 1422, the castle retains its original charm - updated with modern conveniences. The origins of Castello di Petroia date back to the XII century and are composed of medieval buildings enclosed within the Castle's walls. The entire complex was restored between 1982 and 1990, carefully preserving the authentic structure of the Castle. The Castle is composed of three buildings: the "Castellare Maggiore" (the main part), the "Castellare Minore" (the smaller part) and the "Mastio", the building that surrounds the ancient Tower of the Castle .The 11 guestrooms are all in these three buildings. Spacious and comfortable, the bedrooms combine a sense of history and by-gone grandeur with luxurious comfort and modern conveniences. There is even an authentic 1000 year old tower converted into a 3 storey self-contained apartment. Fully restored in 1986, carefully preserving the original architectural structure, it is now a delightful living area. Entered on the 2nd floor, the tower has three rooms, each 10 square meters, set on three different floors. The bathroom is on the lower floor and the bedroom is on the upper floor. Further up still from the bedroom there is a panoramic balcony and solarium for the exclusive use of guests staying in the tower. The floors are connected by way of the original stairways and are steep and narrow, especially those leading to the bathroom. While the Tower does not offer the same level of comfort as the other rooms in the castle complex, it gives its guests the opportunity to totally immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the Middle Ages in an unforgettable location.

The hilltop location of the castle sits on a tree-lined summit overlooking the Chiascio valley, which offers a picturesque landscape beloved by the artists il Perugino and Piero della Francesca. More a home than a hotel, guests at Castello di Petroia are welcomed as family. Rooms are priced according to their size and facilities, with Classic rooms ranging from €110 - €140 (Low to High season) per room. Suites are €170 - €200 and their most extravagant Deluxe Suite €220 - €250. Of special note is the restaurant, once the ancient Accumandugi Hall, with boxed timber ceiling, ancient stone walls and small loophole windows. It offers excellent cuisine by candlelight, with traditional local dishes prepared using the finest ingredients by chef Massimo Carleo. You cannot help by feel like the Lord and Lady of the Castle when you dine. “A jewel from the past with luxuries of the present”
