Second Season (9-6-4 overall record) Lindsey Wilson College (2004)

Gavin Oldham returns for his second season as the head coach at the University of Northwestern Ohio. He was hired as the program’s first coach in 2011. It was an extremely successful inaugural season for the Racers as Oldham guided them to a 9-6-4 record and a spot in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference semifinals. UNOH was unbeaten in its last nine matches and outscored opponents by a 33-5 margin. Midfielder Gabriel Falcon was named first-team All-WHAC, and teammates Wesley Cain, Malakai Field and Jesper Kallqvist were all named honorable mention. Falcon was also named secondteam All-Mideast Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Oldham, a former National Champion at Lindsey Wilson College as a player and assistant coach, brought a vast knowledge of coaching experience to UNOH. A native of Manchester, England, Oldham spent seven seasons as the head assistant men’s soccer coach and head junior varsity coach at Lindsey Wilson. Oldham joined the Blue Raider men’s soccer staff in 2004 as a graduate assistant after his stellar four-year career as a Blue Raider defender. In 2005, Oldham began his duties as lead assistant. That season, Oldham helped lead the Blue Raiders to the NAIA National Championship. In his seven seasons as assistant, the Blue Raiders won or shared six straight Mid-South Conference regular season and tournament titles and appeared in seven NAIA National Tournaments. Oldham’s assistant coaching record was 128-24-5 while at Lindsey Wilson. In 2009, Oldham helped the Blue Raiders to the program’s eighth NAIA National Championship -- his fourth title with Lindsey Wilson. As a student-athlete, Oldham helped Lindsey Wilson to a pair of national championships (2000 and 2001) and a 79-10-1 overall record. Oldham was chosen as the 2001 Most Valuable Player during the NAIA National Tournament where Lindsey Wilson outscored their opponents 22-4 in four matches. Oldham was a two-time All-American and a three-time all-conference selection. Oldham and his wife, Danielle, have one son, Jayce, and twin daughters, Ella and Isla. They reside in Elida.

2013 UNOH Women’s Soccer The University of Northwestern Ohio introduces its first women’s soccer team in school history during the 2013 season. Led by head coach Stuart Gore and assistant coach Jen Dervarics, the Lady Racers will compete in the Wolverine-Hooiser Athletic Conference and the NAIA. Included in their non-conference schedule is a date at NCAA Division I opponent Xavier University. The Lady Racers drew players from around the globe, eight different countries to be exact. And many of these student-athletes will stick around UNOH for four years, with 15 of the 18 players just freshmen. There are seven players on the roster who have played for their home country’s national team. Needless to say, it’s a talented bunch who will be exciting to watch on the field. UNOH will play at Racer Field in the St. Rita’s Health Partners Athletic Complex on the west side of campus. The locker room facilities and coaches’ offices are located in the brand new soccer building located just northwest of the field.

University of Montevallo (2001) Stuart Gore begins his first season as the head coach of the University of Northwestern Ohio women’s soccer team. Gore was officially introduced on September 26, 2012.

Gore began his soccer career in his native Great Britain, playing for the English National Team at U14, U15, U16, U17 and U18 levels in European and world competitions from 1993-2001. From 1996-200, he played professionally for Leeds United, which played in the English Premier League and the Champions League. He came to America on a scholarship to the University of Montevallo, where he was a two-time All-Conference pick. After that, he signed a two-year professional contract with UD Lorca of the Spanish 2nd Division, winning games against Barcelona and Real Madrid Academies. Gore’s coaching career spans three countries, Spain, England and the United States. In America, he has served various roles in the Women’s Professional Soccer and Women’s Professional Soccer League Elite Level, including his most recent role as the head coach of the Philadelphia Fever of the WPSL. He has collegiate experience at Rider University and the University of Delaware as well. Gore, a native of London, England, resides in Lima.

jen dervarics Assistant Coach First Season

Bucknell University (2009) Jen Dervarics starts her first season as the assistant coach of the University of Northwestern Ohio women’s soccer program.

Dervarics is a 2009 graduate of Bucknell University with a successful resume as a collegiate player at the NCAA Division I level. A four-year starter and member of the winningest class in Bucknell women’s soccer history, Dervarics helped the Bison capture the 2005 Patriot League Tournament title. Bucknell advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in school history that season. Dervarics also helped the Bison soccer program to regular season conference titles in 2006 and 2007, and a runner-up finish in 2008.

During her tenure, Dervarics was named an All-Patriot League player in each of her last three seasons. She was a second-team All-Conference selection in 2006 and earned first-team accolades in 2007 and 2008 after leading the Bison with 30 points on 12 goals and 6 assists in each of those seasons. Dervarics garnered Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year awards in both 2007 and 2008 and became the fourth player in program history to earn NSCAA/ Adidas All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors. Also a two-time SoccerBuzz All-Region selection, Dervarics ranks third on the Bucknell career charts for goals (36), assists (19) and points (91). Dervarics was equally successful in the classroom earning Dean’s List and Patriot League Academic Honor Roll distinctions as a Mathematics major. In 2008 she was named to the NSCAA/Adidas Scholar All-East Region First Team and ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II First Team. Upon graduation, Dervarics served as a volunteer assistant coach at Bucknell, also working as a coach at the Bucknell University Soccer Camp for Girls from 2006-11 and the Emmaus High School Soccer Camp from 2002-06.

After Bucknell, she was a starter and captain for the Philadelphia Fever of the WPSL Elite League, the highest level of women’s soccer in the United States. She played for current UNOH women’s soccer coach Stuart Gore while with the Fever.

University of Northwestern Ohio Athletics Hall of Fame

Beginning in 2007, the University of Northwestern Ohio has annually inducted a new class into its Athletics Hall of Fame, honoring those who helped make UNOH Athletics what it is and continues to become. The classes honor both contributions to UNOH and Northwestern Business College, the institution’s name while athletics were in play before the mid-1980s. The first inductee to the Hall of Fame was former basketball player and coach Dennis Elwer, who continues to serve the University as the Director of Athletic Alumni Relations. The second class included Larry Blain, who was the University comptroller and continues his long-held duties as the official scorer for volleyball and men’s and women’s basketball. The next class of UNOH Athletics Hall of Fame members will be introduced on January 18, 2014 when the UNOH basketball teams face Siena Heights University.
