PathwayOregon2022Report

Fellow Ducks,

The last two years have been a challenge to say the least, yet we are emerging from this pandemic stronger than before. The challenges created by the pandemic gave us more opportunities to continue to be innovative, nimble, and hard-working than ever to attract and retain the most talented students from across Oregon, who otherwise may not have even considered attending college because of financial limitations.

From producing numerous online events to hosting virtual one-on-one counseling sessions and much more, we met the challenges COVID-19 created for us and are better for this effort. Despite these difficult years, our dedication and commitment to serve many of Oregon’s lower-income and talented students would not have been possible without the PathwayOregon program.

With contributions from donors over the years and with new donors joining our efforts, we will continue to support and encourage our students to achieve their goals. We must always have clarity of purpose and recognize we are creating our future citizens and leaders of our state. PathwayOregon provides opportunity and support for talented students across the state to reach their potential, regardless of their family’s economic situation. I am inspired by the generosity and remain grateful for the lasting impact the PathwayOregon program provides for the University of Oregon and our state.

PathwayOregon has shined a light through a time of uncertainty. With full tuition and fees provided by the program, earning a college degree has become a reality for many students. Pairing personal academic advising and support has aided in overcoming the challenges some faced while on campus or who were struggling during the pandemic. Simply stated, PathwayOregon provided the solid foundation for students to persevere through the challenges COVID presented to earn their University of Oregon degree.

With gratitude and appreciation,

Your support is enabling dreams to come true and the state of Oregon has a brighter future. More than 7,800 PathwayOregon students have been served since the program began, with more than $55.7 million donated since the inception of the program. While we have found new tactics and innovations to attract and support our students in profound ways during the pandemic, we cannot slow our efforts or rest on our laurels. We must continue these efforts and increase our support for programs like PathwayOregon to multiply our successes and continue supporting our students as they become the leaders of tomorrow.

However, the amount the UO provides varies according to each student’s needs, enabling us to leverage state and federal funds. Expected family contribution is determined by the federal government when students apply for financial aid. It is calculated with a formula that uses income, assets, benefits, and family size. Graduation Rates

FOUR-YEAR GRADUATION RATES

Just one year later, the first cohort of Pathway students entered the UO—a cohort that graduated at a rate of 43 percent. Now, 13 years after the inception of the Pathway program, an incredible 57 percent of Pathway students that entered the UO in 2017 graduated last year.

“I’m very thankful for the opportunities PathwayOregon gave me. I hope that the program continues long into the future, so as many people as possible can get opportunities to pursue higher education.”

—RIVERMAJOR:VEEKCOMPUTER SCIENCE

The four-year graduation rates of PathwayOregon students greatly exceed historical rates for low-income Oregonians. In 2007, the year before the Pathway program was launched, the average fouryear graduation rate for Federal Pell Grant recipients attending the UO was 31 percent, slightly better than the rate at other Oregon public universities.
