Pompeu Fabra University Created in 1990 with the goal of becoming one of Europe’s leading universities, UPF is a young, modern, public institution. UPF’s studies are organized into three areas of knowledge, namely social and human sciences, health and life sciences, and information and communication technologies. The University offers high quality teaching and first-rate research that enjoys international renown, these being the three cornerstones of the UPF model. UPF has always offered comprehensive training of great relevance to its students. The numerous indicators that currently bear testimony to the success of that approach include strong demand for places on the University’s study programmes, as well as high levels of success, satisfaction and employment rate among its students and graduates. Master’s degrees All UPF master’s degrees are adapted to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and accredited by external organizations. Their course loads are established in ECTS credits. An academic year is equivalent to 60 ECTS credits, which is the number of credits available to a full-time student. Based on their orientation, there are three different types of master’s degrees: 1. Professional programmes, geared to training for professional practice, 2. Research programmes, geared to training for research activity, 3. Academic programmes. Master’s degrees are the standard means of qualifying for admission to PhD studies.

›› Admission Admission to a master’s degree may be applied for by: Students with an official Spanish university qualification, i.e. holders of bachelor’s, engineering or architecture degrees, three-year degrees, or engineering or architecture diplomas. Students with an EHEA university qualification that makes them eligible for such admission. Students with a non-EHEA university qualification. It is not compulsory to obtain official recognition of such a qualification, but checks of postgraduate studies in its country of issue will be undertaken. For pre-enrolment purposes, such students must submit an application form for admission to a master’s degree on the basis of non-EHEA studies, along with the duly authenticated documentation.

Additionally, specific admission requirements apply to every university master’s degree, details of which can be found in the section on such programmes on the UPF website.

›› Grants and financial support UPF awards grants for enrolment fees to the master’s degree candidates with the best academic transcripts. All students taking master’s degrees may apply for grants issued by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science, the Catalan government and other institutions, such as the Spanish International Development Aid Agency. Additionally, many educational and governmental institutions have systems for providing financial support for studies. Students may also apply for special low-interest and/or commission-free loans. Find out about grants and financial support at www.upf.edu/master-grants.
