The area that corresponds to the nomination for World Heritage is already enclosed in several plans that regulate the interventions and activities developed in it. These plans, generally referred below, are presented with further detail in volume 7.

O Plano Director Municipal do Concelho de Coimbra, ratificado pelo Conselho de Ministros a 10 de Fevereiro de 1994 e actualmente em fase de revisão, é o instrumento de ordenamento do território, de natureza regulamentar, que estabelece, para toda a área concelhia, o regime de uso do solo.
The Municipal Master Plan of Coimbra, ratified by the Council of Ministers on February 10th, 1994 and presently under revision, is the regulating regional planning instrument, which establishes, for the whole municipality, the land use.
Ficam nele determinados a base da gestão programada do território municipal, os princípios e regras de garantia da qualidade ambiental e da preservação do património cultural, os princípios e os critérios subjacentes a opções de localização de infra-estruturas, equipamentos, serviços e funções, os parâmetros de uso e fruição do espaço público, entre outros.
