A organização e o reforço da componente turística dependerão em grande medida da posição estratégica do edifício do Largo dos Colégios, localizado no topo, concentrando todos os serviços de apoio turístico. No piso térreo situam-se, para além do referido centro de atendimento, a central de bilhética, o bengaleiro, o depósito de bagagens, o posto de correios, as lojas, as instalações sanitárias, a cafetaria e os diversos espaços directamente relacionados com a informação e divulgação da Universidade de Coimbra. No piso superior serão instalados os respectivos serviços administrativos, nomeadamente do futuro Gabinete de Gestão dos Espaços Turísticos e do Museu da Ciência da Universidade de Coimbra, e uma unidade de restauração. A criação do novo Largo dos Colégios e sua articulação com o Largo D. Dinis pretende, não apenas resolver uma situação residual e degradada, como sobretudo requalificar a presença do Colégio das Artes e do Colégio de S. Jerónimo através dum espaço que medeie a transição da matriz urbana da área dos Antigos Colégios para axialidade enfática da intervenção Estado Novo.

of the building to be located at the top of Largo dos Colégios, where all the tourism support services will be concentrated. The ground floor will lodge, in addition to the already mentioned reception services, the ticket centre, a cloakroom, a luggage deposit, a post office, shops, toilets, a cafeteria and several areas directly related to the University’s promotion and information. On the top floor, there will be the respective administration services, namely the future Office for Management of Tourism Spaces and the Science Museum of the University of Coimbra, as well as a catering unit. The renewal of Largo dos Colégios and its articulation with Largo D. Dinis aims not only to solve the problem of its current state of degradation, but primarily to enhance the presence of the College of Arts and St. Jerome’s College, by means of a space which can mediate the transition from the urban matrix of the area where the Old Colleges are located, to the emphatic layout of the Estado Novo’s intervention.
O Largo do Marquês de Pombal, que o Plano de Pormenor apelida de Largo dos Museus, concentrará o acesso urbano às grandes unidades museológicas existentes ou a reorganizar, em torno do grande projecto que é o Museu da Ciência da Universidade de Coimbra. Este Museu agregará os vários espólios inseridos anteriormente noutros museus universitários, procurando conferir uma coerência e atractividade, que lhes atribuirá um potencial turístico de inquestionável valor. As suas colecções constituem um dos espólios mais valiosos de toda a Europa.
The Marquês de Pombal Square, named Largo dos Museus (Museum Square) in the Detailed Master Plan, will provide access to the existing museum units or those yet to be organized around the ambitious project of the Science Museum of the University of Coimbra. This Museum will gather several collections previously included in other university museums, which are among the most valuable in all of Europe, in order to give them coherence and increase their tourist attractiveness. This project is currently being implemented, involving the completion of the restoration of the Chemical Laboratory building — the first to open to the public — and then work on the College of Jesus, where a major part of the Science Museum’s collections are currently housed.
Actualmente, este projecto encontra-se em implementação e após a recuperação do edifício do Laboratório Químico, primeiro núcleo a abrir ao público, segue-se a intervenção no Colégio de Jesus, onde actualmente se encontra grande parte do espólio do Museu da Ciência.
