Sixteen people with close ties to UNCW will be key to the institution’s future as they seek a replacement for Rosemary DePaolo. “We will have a role in selecting the next leader of UNCW, who will continue the course and take the university to an even higher level while maintaining the academic excellence this institution has seen under Chancellor DePaolo,” said Wendy Murphy ’93, chair of the board of trustees and the chancellor search committee. “Today we begin a new chapter in the history of UNCW.” “This is the most important work you will ever be asked to do on behalf of any institution,” incoming UNC system president Thomas Ross told the committee on Nov. 12. “Institutions have different trajectories, and the one for UNCW is up and has been for some time. You want to find someone who can build on that legacy and not be satisfied with where you are. You are a school of choice for many students, and you want to remain that way.”

After getting input from the campus and general community, developing a leadership statement specifying the qualities sought in the next chancellor and working with Atlanta-based Parker Executive Search to identify candidates, the committee will forward the names of three finalists by April 2011 to Ross and the UNC Board of Governors who will make the final decision on UNCW’s next chancellor.
