RECREATION POLICIES REGISTRATION AND CANCELLATION • Registration is required for most classes. • Registration is on a first come, first served basis. Popular programs fill up quickly! • Programs may be cancelled if there isn’t sufficient registration 3-5 days prior to the start date. • Unavoidable class cancellations will be made up at the end of the session when possible. • Drop in policies: First priority is for those participants who are registered. Registered participants have up to 10 minutes after the program start time to show up. All no-show spots at that time will be sold to the drop-in wait list. At 9:00am the day of the program, you may call 604.822.4227 to put your name on the drop-in wait list. PROGRAM FEES & REFUNDS • Drop-in fees must be paid before each class and receipt must be provided to the instructor. • Applicable taxes will be added to the price of programs and fitness centre memberships. • Full refunds will be issued for any programs cancelled by the UNA. • Refund requests must be submitted no later than 1 hour after the second class, after which refunds may be considered on a case-by-case basis. • Refunds are prorated with an administration fee of $5 per person. • Fitness Centre refunds will only be offered for documented medical conditions. COMMUNITY SPACES Community Centre staff reserve the right to make changes to room schedules. The Living Room at the Old Barn Community Centre, the Lounge and the Splash Pad at Wesbrook Community Centre are public spaces and not available for private events. These spaces may be reserved for UNA programs or events. PHOTOS Photos may be taken of program and event participants for marketing and promotions by the UNA and may appear in UNA print materials, websites or social media. Please inform the Program Coordinator if you have any concerns about having photos taken of you or your child.

WINSON CHIU Winson, founder of The 8th Dimension Comic Studio in Vancouver, has been teaching children how to tap into their creative minds through various drawing disciplines for 10+ years.

KAY HUANG BARNES - CROSSMANEUVER Kay is the director and an instructor for CrossManeuver Dance Theatre. Her choreography has been featured around the world. Look for their classes for both children and adults!

CRAZI CLUB Three passionate dancers and musicians: Angela Zhang, Nancy Wu & Winifred Wang. They are youth who can teach and choreograph hip hop dances and arrange original music for pop band members.

MAVADDAT JAVID Mavaddat has taught chess for 2 years and played competitively for 7. He studied philosophy and software engineering at UBC. He is learning to read, write, and speak Mandarin Chinese.

DHARMA DRUM The Dharma Drum Vancouver Center is dedicated to practicing the teachings of the Buddha through the Dharma Drum lineage of Chan Buddhism.

Minnie has taught and lectured in Korean Fan Dance, jazz, and dance theory as a professor’s assistant at Kyunghee University, Jungbu University, and Chungmin National University.

DanZa Productions was created with the goal of offering fun, affordable and top quality dance fitness classes for people of all ages and health and fitness levels.

Joey Laguio is a seasoned vocalist with 10+ years of classical and choral singing experience, having sung in various chamber choirs, musicals, and a cappella groups.

Anthony has been training Kyokushin Karate since 1985. He has attended many training camps and seminars in Canada and Japan and is honoured and excited to share Kyokushin Karate with the UNA/UBC Community.

ROGER GENG Roger has worked as a senior manager at multinational companies around the world focusing on training, strategic management, and team building. He is now bringing those skills to our community for the betterment of all of his students.

Emily is a professional dancer and instructor who graduated from MinZu University of China with a Master’s Degree in Dance Education.

Esaine Mo, is a school based Settlement Worker with the VSB SWIS Program. Her job is to support and connect newcomer students and their families in schools and their communities.

UBC Active Kids is a student development program run by the School of Kinesiology, providing developmentally appropriate recreational gymnastics, sport, and physical literacy classes.

DANIEL PUGH Sifu Daniel Pugh has been teaching Kung Fu for over 10 years and is a certified 7th degree Instructor by the World Organization of Wushu and Kung Fu Masters. He has competed in both National and International competitions where he has received numerous medals and awards including Adult Blackbelt Grandchampion.

DEHAI WANG Dehai is an established art professional whose paintings are in collections around the world. He holds a Bachelors degree in Oil Painting from Tianjin and has been teaching for 18 years.

With its pleasant sound and small size, the ukulele is an ideal instrument for children to start their musical journey. The Personal Safety for Women workshops provide information to women to reduce the risk of victimization. 1840 - THE YEAR OF THE SONG In 1840, Robert Schumann, composer, and Clara Wieck, pianist, were married, thus creating one of the greatest musical partnerships. Before his marriage, Schumann had composed mostly piano music, but during 1840 he turned to song. In an unprecedented burst of creative energy, he composed approximately 125 songs within the year. This course will explore the musical partnership of Clara and Robert as well as many of the songs composed during 1840. The Old Barn Community Centre Fitness Centre The Old Barn Community Centre Fitness Room welcomes anyone 13 years and older, whether it’s your first time or you are a high level athlete. Youth aged 13-16 need to take an introduction course, please speak to one of our staff members to arrange an orientation. We offer a variety of memberships from weekly passes, monthly passes, 10x punch cards and one year memberships. Special rates are available for UNA residents and UBC faculty, staff and students. Identification is required to qualify for special rates and to provide proof of age. We have a variety of cardio machines and free weights that are accessible within the gym. If you need to bring a personal trainer there are no additional charges beyond a drop-in fee.
