KLEIN THEATRE Sensory-Friendly Performance

Pre-Visit Guide

I am going to Klein Theatre to see a play. A play is a story told by people on stage. These people are called actors.

When I arrive, there are parking spaces in the parking lot across the street, and two spaces that are accessible. There is a long brick walkway that leads to the front of the building.

When I arrive at the front, I will walk up the steps and into the lobby.

If I can not walk up the steps, I will use the accessible entrance down to the left of the main entrance and take the elevator to floor 2 to enter the lobby. A volunteer will be there to help me if I am not sure of exactly where to go.

When I go inside the lobby, I will see a window where I will check in for the play. The lobby may be crowded and noisy. I may have to wait in line to check in.

In the lobby, there will be friendly helpers who can answer questions and help me know where to go.

The bathrooms are in the hallways on either side of the lobby. The bathrooms are open at anytime during my visit. There may be a line of people at the bathroom and I will need to wait my turn. The water fountain is next to the men’s bathroom.

As I enter the theatre, I will see lots of seats in front of the stage. The seats have numbers and letters on the arm rests. I will find the seat letter and number that match my ticket.

A helper will be there to guide me if I cannot find my seat.

When the play is being performed, the lights where I am sitting will be dimmed but will stay on. I am allowed to move around if I need to. I am allowed to talk, clap, or cheer if I feel that I want to. If I want to take a break, I may exit and re-enter the theatre at any time.

If I need to, I may go to the quiet room. The quiet room is open the entire time I am at Klein Theatre. In the quiet room, there is comfortable seating and fidgets available for me use. I may borrow noise canceling headphones if I need them. The play will be on a tv in the lobby so I do not have to miss any of the story.

When the play is over, I will leave the theatre. It may be crowded and noisy and I may have to wait my turn to exit. Some of the actors will be available to meet near the stage, if I want to meet them.
