The UMW Small Business Development Center Participates in the 2019 Supplier Expo Fredericksburg, VA: On Wednesday, March 6th, UMW Procurement services hosted its annual Supplier Expo inviting vendors from the community to attend and meet with buyers in the area to make connections, build relationships and network. The UMW Small Business Development Center (SBDC) participated in the event as a vendor to answer questions and educate attendees on what services the SBDC offers and what steps to take in order to start a business. “I enjoyed my time at the UMW Supplier Expo,” says Angela Kelley, Early Venture Business Consultant for UMW SBDC. “It provided a chance for me to meet new people and answer questions about the Center while meeting with state and local agencies.” The UMW Small Business Development Center is a resource center that provides assistance to the small business community via management training, industrial and demographic research, and confidential one-on-one consulting with a focus on capital access and management planning. "The UMW Supplier Expo was a great event that connected vendors with not only the University community, but additional localities and agencies,” says James Deloatch, a Buyer Specialist in charge of the event. “We had a good amount of participation from the vendors and surrounding community and hope to continue to increase in size and networking next year.” The UMW Supplier Expo is an opportunity for both buyers and vendors to strengthen preexisting connections, and to make new contacts for an array of goods and services. Buyers are able to speak with a range of businesses that can assist their business needs. It is a chance to network and place faces to emails exchanged all while taking advantage of this opportunity to meet with motivated and professional businesses.
