Carrfour Supportive Housing

Contact: Paola Roman, Vice President, Housing Development Contact Information: proman@carrfour.org Carrfour Supportive Housing is looking for interns in the areas of affordable real estate development, accounting, resident services, and farming. Carrfour’s mission is to be the leading provider of supportive housing for formerly homeless persons, and those at risk of homelessness, in the implementation of the Miami-Dade County Community Homeless Plan. [They] will utilize all available resources which permit [them] to serve [their] target population. [They] will forge alliances with organizations also committed to the community Homeless Plan and others whose involvement helps [them] to pursue the plan. Unpaid.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami

This person will learn how the program operates and become familiar with Miami Habitat. Job responsibilities include finding and recruiting contacts from local schools to set up meetings about creating new Chapters, following up with existing ideas and coming up with new ones for current Chapter activities, helping coordinate builds and other volunteer opportunities for Chapters, assisting Chapters with upcoming volunteer fairs and other events, tracking donations and entering data for Chapters (i.e. volunteer hours, etc.), and assembling documents and keeping track of files regarding Chapter related topics. Miami Beach Community Development Corporation

The intern will provide support for development and initiation of a new program: Supportive Services Program for Elderly, Frail Elderly and Other Persons with Special Needs; document the contribution of affordable housing -- acquisition, rehabilitation and operation of historic buildings -- to the revitalization of the South Beach Art Deco District and the City of Miami Beach; participate in Real Estate Development Analysis, Architectural Planning and Construction Management of Affordable Housing in Miami Beach; work on the Housing Counseling program – Training Seminar Programs to Assist First Time Homebuyers, One to One Counseling to Stabilize Housing Situation and to Assist Residents facing mortgage foreclosure; assessment; development and implementation of improved Property Management and Asset Management functions; participate in development of the Organization’s Five Year Strategic Plan; and participate in Workshop Seminar Documenting the Organization of the Miami Beach CDC and its contribution to the revitalization of the Art Deco District, South Beach, and Miami Beach. Neighborhood Housing Service of South Florida

Contact: Benji Power, Neighborhood Revitalization Planner Contact Information: benjip@nhssf.org NHSSF is looking for an unpaid special projects intern to help with the following initiative (could be split into 2 internship opportunities): Community Leadership Training: : In the months of September - November 2011 a group of Brownsville residents (about 20) will participate in a leadership training series, based on a nationally developed NeighborWorks America community leadership training curriculum. CB&O staff lead these trainings and the intern will help manage documentation for the training series.

Annual Community Paint & Beautification Day: Planning and execution of March 2012 Community Paint & Beautification Day. CB&O staff lead the coordination of volunteer recruitment for 2 months leading up to event, which involves creating marketing materials, managing email and website-driven volunteer recruitment, and creating and administering an event day volunteer management system.

Community-led Neighborhood Action Projects: The Community Visioning and Leadership Training processes will highlight some other projects that Brownsville residents and NHSSF can work on together.

CB&O staff manages the resident outreach work related to the creation of project ideas, administer communications related to creating new partnerships to support projects, and support grant writing to acquire project funding.

Brownsville Community Organizing: CB&O staff will continue to work in and with existing and new Brownsville residents, engaging them in dialogue about Brownsville’s current conditions and its future.

South Florida Community Development Coalition (SFCDC)

Contact: Andrea Baker Dean, Assistant Director Contact Information: AndreaD@southfloridacdc.org SFCDC is looking for a student intern for Fall 2011 majoring in Economics, Sociology, Social Studies, Political Science, Urban Studies, Business, Public Administration, and related fields, and who has an interest in policy research and policy advocacy, community development, economic development, or affordable 2

housing. Skill requirements include strong oral and written communication, a professional manner, and preferably marketing or advocacy experience. Applicant should be very comfortable using Microsoft Excel, as that is the program SFCDC has been using to compile data and compare results. The intern will reach out to various government agencies and private organizations to research funding sources, and will prepare facts sheets using research collected. The intern will also be involved in meetings with elected officials.
