SELECTIONS FROM THE PROGRAMME SAMI TREASURES – An exhibition of utility items The Samiska Skatter (Sami Treasures) exhibition at Skogsmuseet (the Forestry Museum) in Lycksele is one of the world’s most interesting collections of Sami utility items. It also includes fascinating art, exciting documents and books. Lectures, seminars and shows will be arranged in Gammplatsen (‘the old place’) in connection with the exhibition. If you’d like to visit Lycksele you can get there and back by train or coach from Umeå.

FOOD FESTIVAL – five days just for foodies For five days in autumn 2014 aficionados of good food will have several different ways to savour Umeå’s food culture. The food festival offers everything from themed tents and contests to markets for local ingredients. There will be a special focus on Sami food culture.

Tjakttjagiessie (early autumn) 29 Aug–9 Oct CONTEMPORARY CIRCUS FESTIVAL – fun for all ages with spectacular artistry Nycirkusfestivalen (the contemporary circus festival) is an inspiring, creative meeting place and a fun-filled public event arranged by Umeå Teaterförening. Enjoy the most interesting, challenging and spectacular elements of contemporary circus, street performance and music hall. The festival will last 10 days during the capital of culture year, between 29 August and 7 September.

WEAVING FAIR 2014 – a popular event, in Norrland for the first time! From 18–20 September 2014 Vävmässan (the weaving fair) makes its debut at Nolia in Umeå. Under the theme ‘joy of weaving’ the fair will feature exhibitions, lectures, sales, excursions, courses, workshops and a night of festivities. This is the first time this internationally acclaimed fair will be held in northern Sweden so the organisers have given it a real Norrland feel. Svenska Vävrådet (the Swed-
