Preparation for Year 7 English Exam The new exam focuses on short stories and creative pieces of writing.

Students are asked to work on a set of skills which include: - selecting and retrieving information - analysing quotes and the words/language techniques they use and why - analysing the structure and why it may have been given that structure - evaluation - what does the text talk about, which elements of it are successful and why.

The final section to the English exam is a creative writing piece. Students will be marked on their spelling, punctuation, grammar, attempt at using excellent vocabulary and coming up with an idea that is original, unique and - most importantly - makes sense.

They can revise by taking an extract of a book and answering basic style questions such as: 'Analyse the language used in this extract'. However, class teachers will be starting to revise with them shortly. They are only doing skills that they have already been doing throughout the year.
