Resume Peer Encouragement & Feedback

Imagine you are on a search committee for a position and have a stack of resumes to go through. Let the following questions guide you through how to read though the resume.

 What seems to be the most important information that stands out in the first 10 seconds of scanning the document?

 What is your general first impression? Excited to read more? Feeling overwhelmed/underwhelmed at all?

 Is it easy to scan the document and know where to find the information you need? What helped you or hindered you to find information?

 What is something that is working well on this resume? What is something that could use improvement?

 Are there any standout experiences or information that you feel should be highlighted on the resume better?

 Is there anything that seems outdated or not relevant? (For example: Graduated high school 3 years ago but is still listed on the education section).

 Is there anything that may be missing from the resume that would help you get to know this person better? (Feel free to ask your peer if they may have left anything out)

 Get your peer’s input How do they feel about their resume? Did they find your input helpful? What are they excited to work on after this?

Give this sheet to your peer so they have your notes and feedback to reference as they work on their resume.
