up all three days for voting. “I feel like we tried really hard to advertise for voting beforehand but I think we need to advertise harder during elections,” Niehenke said. “My goal for next year as far as elections would be to get more students to vote and take the initiative to care about what’s going on with their money.”
The first item on their agenda is to hire all of the executive staff for ASUI. “We will actually both be here this summer, and so we will be working on restructuring the student activity fee, we’ll be working on launching an ASUI survey and then we’ll just be getting acquainted with all of the faculty and staff on our campus,” Perez said. From now until summer, they will be talking to new and old senators to figure out what
they want to see changed in ASUI, Corona said. “So I can start working on some things to develop senate better for next fall,” he said. Current Policy Adviser Matt Cook was elected as a senator for next fall. “I feel great. I’m excited to make some change in the senate, and I will be keeping my campaign promises, and that’s something I’m really excited about because I made some pretty big promises that peo-

Nellis’s stated goal of boosting enrollment numbers statewide will potentially lead to more graduates and a larger burden on the registrar’s office. But Krogh said the registrar is ready for a increasing student population. “We’re looking forward to that,” Krogh said, “that’s what we’re here for.” Already with the highest university graduation rate in the state, Krogh said, the UI registrar wants to continue despite added students. “We’re good at graduating our students,” she said, “and we want to get even better.”
Read won, but Behrens did not. “It kind of sucks, but there are a lot of people who deserved it and I think the people who won will do a good job of representing the university,” Behrens said. It will be his senior year in the fall, but Behrens plans on getting involved with ASUI anyway. “I’m applying for a summer internship as well as an ASUI executive position next year, and I plan on getting involved with SArb,” he said.

Kibbie Dome parking lot undergoes maintenance

suites, a new club level, which will host pregame and postgame functions and a new press box on the north side of the Dome, Pankopf said. Along with renovations done to the Dome, the parking lot has also been used as a contractor laydown and construction related parking area, said Carl Root, director of Parking and Transportation Services. “There are three large projects impacting the area this year, Kibbie Life Safety, Kibbie Enhancements and track resurfacing. All are projects that have a fair amount of material storage and demolition related needs of the parking lot,” Root said. Pankopf said it’s a long-range desire to someday lower the floor in the Dome, but as of now it’s not currently funded.
A few days ago some students may have noticed portions of the Kibbie Dome parking lot were closed, however it was just a part of Parking and Transportation Services annual maintenance. The large gravel West Dome lot tends to receive more maintenance because of the surface gravel, said Carl Root, director of Parking and Transportation Services. “This week we removed the wheel stops and re-graded the gravel, which had been pushed around during snow plowing,” Root said. “It is not a great surface and tends to pothole easily and yet is very difficult to spend much more in maintenance costs on that lot.”
The amount of revenue that the lot brings in is at an annual blue permit price of $64 a year, which is less than Parking Services spends on maintenances, Root said. Along with student parking, the lot is also used for sporting events and the Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival. Currently Parking Services is preparing for commencement, which is why the current maintenance has taken place. “Maintenance is critical and when deferred it can lead to more expansive and more expensive repairs. We try very hard to stay on top of all our parking lot maintenance,” Root said.
