Assistant Coach 12th Season Alma College ‘88

A native of Detroit, Mich., Keith Duncan will begin his 12th season on the Delaware men’s soccer coaching staff as a volunteer assistant for the 2013 season. He is responsible for goalkeeper training.

Assistant Coach 6th Season Delaware ‘06

The University of Delaware men’s soccer program announced the addition of former Blue Hen standout Matt Haney to its staff as an assistant coach on May 13, 2008. Haney begins his sixth season on the Delaware coaching staff under head coach Ian Hennessy in 2013. Haney starred in the Blue Hen backfield from 2003 through 2006, building an impressive resume on and off the field. A four-year starter, Haney scored four goals and dished out one assist for nine points in 70 career games.

Duncan graduated from Detroit Country Day School in 1984 where he played both soccer and ice hockey. He played one year of soccer and ice hockey at Division III St. Olaf College (Northfield, Minn.) before transferring to Division III Alma College (Alma, Mich.). Duncan graduated from Alma in 1988 where he was an allconference goalkeeper and was co-captain of the squad as both a junior and senior.

The Newark, Del. native also made his mark in the classroom, where he was the consumate studentathlete. He earned first-team ESPN The Magazine/ CoSIDA Academic All-America honors He completed his undergraduate degree during an internship at the University of in 2005 and 2006 Sydney (Australia) and played with the local club squad. Duncan attended graduate school at theUniversity of Georgia in Plant Pathology before being hired by DuPont as well as a thirdteam selection as as a biologist in 1990. a sophomore in Prior to coming to Delaware, Dun2004. Employed by DuPont as a scientist in plant cell biology, Duncan also received a master’s degree in Science Education from the University of Delaware in 1999. He holds dual US-Australian citizenship and resides in Hockessin, Del. with his wife, Ashlyn.

“I think Matt has a tremendous future in coaching,” said Delaware head coach Ian Hennessy in making the announcement. “Matt has many of the qualities of great teachers, and in the end, a large part of coaching is teaching. In his time here at Delaware, (Matt) was one of the most decorated student-athletes in the history of the program. I expect that he will have an awful lot to offer future leaders in our locker room by way of example.” Haney graduated from Delaware in 2006 with a degree in biological sciences. A 2003 graduate of St. Elizabeth High School in Wilmington, Haney was a three-time all-state selection and a four-time all-conference pick for the Vikings.
