The Huskies are 2-0 against teams from the ACC (Maryland, BC), 1-0 against the Big Ten (Indiana), 1-0 against the SEC (Florida), and 1-1 against the Pac-12. Under Coach Kevin Ollie, UConn is 8-2 overall against teams from the power conferences. LAST TIME OUT: UConn won its first American Athletic Conference road game with an 83-73 victory at Memphis before 18,039 at the FedExForum. In an exciting game in which the lead changed 13 times and the game was tied three times, UConn took the lead for good on a tip-in by Amida Brimah with 13:08 to play, but the lead was only 75-71 with 1:00 left. That’s when DeAndre Daniels blocked a shot by Memphis’ Joe Jackson and UConn’s Shabazz Napier grabbed the rebound. Lasan Kromah, Napier, and Ryan Boatright hit six straight free throws to put the game away. UConn hit its last seven shots from the floor and its last six free throws. Both Daniels (23 points, 11 rebounds) and Napier (17 points, 10 assists) had double-doubles, while Kromah also scored double figures with 13. UConn shot a sizzling 57.1 percent overall, 60.7 percent in the second half. FIRST AAC WIN: The Huskies captured their first American Athletic Conference victory with a convincing 84-61 triumph over UCF on Jan. 11 at Gampel Pavilion. Led by freshman center Amida Brimah, UConn jumped out to a 35-24 lead at halftime, maintained a 49-39 edge with 11:19 remaining and did not let the lead get below eight points the rest of the way. Brimah had career highs of 20 points and 8 rebounds to go along with 5 blocks, all in 20 minutes of action, in his finest game to date. Senior Shabazz Napier had the sixth double-double of his career with 14 points and 11 assists to go with 5 rebounds, while junior DeAndre Daniels contributed 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 blocked shots. Junior Ryan Boatright added to the double-figure scorers with 11 points, to go with 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The Huskies grabbed 50 rebounds, the most under Ollie, and outrebounded UCF, 50-34, although UCF was the top rebounding team in the AAC coming into the game. Led by Brimah, the UConn bench outscored the UCF reserves, 41-12. NEW HOME VENUE: The Huskies played their first home game in a venue other than in Storrs
