His touchdown pass came on a three-yard strike to junior Shakim Phillips (Paterson, N.J.) in the second overtime of the three OT win. McCummings At “The Wildcat” Redshirt sophomore Scott McCummings (Natick, Mass.) has been playing all season at quarterback in the “Wildcat” spot and had his best game of the season on Sept. 15 vs. Maryland. McCummings had eight carries in the game for 44 yards with one rushing. He scored on a three-yard run with 12:35 left to go in the second quarter to give UConn a 14-0 lead. McCummings also had a key role in UConn’s final TD drive of the game as he had a pass for two yards and three rushes for 30 yards, including a 21-yarder that moved the ball to the Maryland 19. He had 33 yards on five carries vs. USF with a long carry of 25 yards and one carry for 13 yards against Pittsburgh. McCummings has a total of 128 rushing yards on the season on 37 carries and is the second-leading rusher on the Husky team. Davis Leads The Receivers UConn’s leading receiver this year is redshirt sophomore Geremy Davis (Lawrenceville, Ga.), who has 39 receptions for 567 yards and a touchdown. Davis had just six receptions in all of 2011 with 73 yards. He had a career-high nine catches and 123 yards vs. Western Michigan and also his first TD reception. He had another outstanding outing vs. USF (Nov. 3) with seven receptions for 98 yards. Davis had five receptions for 79 yards and a long of 26 and

then backed it up with two catches for 27 yards vs. N.C. State and one reception for seven yards vs. Maryland. He had two receptions for 32 yards vs. Buffalo. The Huskies got a boost at the wide receiver position with two players who did not play in 2011. Redshirt sophomore Shakim Phillips (Paterson, N.J.) is a transfer from Boston College who sat out in ’11 due to NCAA rules. Phillips had his best day as a collegiate player on Oct. 13 against Temple with seven receptions for 100 yards. He had two receptions in the win against Louisville on Saturday, including a three-yard TD reception in overtime. He had one reception for nine yards at BC in his freshman year of 2010. Following his senior year in high school, he played in the prestigious U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio. Phillips has made 25 receptions for 306 yards this season. He has made 17 receptions in the past five games for 216 yards. Also back in 2012 is senior Michael Smith (Houston, Texas), who missed last year. From 2008-10, Smith had 73 receptions for the Huskies for 922 yards and a pair of TDs. Smith was the leading receiver on the 2010 BIG EAST Champion UConn team which went on to play in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. Smith made three receptions for 30 yards vs. UMass, one vs. N.C. State for four yards, three for 35 yards vs. WMU and two for 26 yards vs. Buffalo. He had three receptions for 52 yards vs. Rutgers and against Temple, he had five receptions for 54 yards with his first TD reception since 2010. He had four receptions for 61 yards against Syracuse and three for 40 yards vs. USF and one catch for 27 yards vs. Pittsburgh. The most experienced UConn receiver is senior Nick Williams (East Windsor, N.J.), who was the fifth-leading receiver
