Integrity, scholarship, community, creativity, and excellence are the core values that guide our conduct, performance, and decisions.

OUR LOGO, THE PEGASUS.

The Pegasus is the winged horse of Greek mythology. It carried heroes on to great adventures and earned a place in the stars as a constellation. The logo was officially unveiled on April 5, 1968. The Pegasus was chosen for its distinctiveness, and it symbolizes the university’s vision of limitless possibilities.

Integrity

I will practice and defend academic and personal honesty.

Scholarship

I will cherish and honor learning as a fundamental purpose of my membership in the UCF community.

Community

I will promote an open and supportive campus environment by respecting the rights and contributions of every individual.

Creativity

I will use my talents to enrich the human experience.

Excellence

I will strive toward the highest standards of performance in any endeavor I undertake.

It gives you the following important information: - Your cumulative and major grade point average (GPA) - The courses that are required for your degree - The courses you have passed, failed or repeated - The courses you must still take (indicated by minus signs) - How everything you have taken, or registered for, counts in reaching your goal. Why does my degree audit not show completed courses? It may take up to 6 weeks for transfer information to be posted on your audit. Be sure UCF has your most recent official transcripts. For any discrepancies, check with your academic advisor. How often may I receive a degree audit? Audits are available online at any time. However, it may take up to 6-8 weeks for changes to be posted. How do I obtain my degree audit? Log into myUCF and select “Student Self Service” from the menu. Under “Academics” in the middle of the page, select “Other Academic”; then “Degree Audit”. Next, select the yellow “Submit Report” and click “OK.” Then click the tab labeled “Results” at the top of the page. Finally, click on the most recent request and click the corresponding blue “View Audit” link. What is the difference between “drop” a class and “withdraw” from a class? A student may “drop” a course during registration, or during the official add/drop period. When you drop a course during registration, or during add/drop, it will not appear on your permanent record. If you can no longer continue in a course after the add/drop period, you must withdraw prior to the withdrawal deadline and a “W” will show on your permanent records. If you withdraw from a course, you are not eligible for a refund of your fees. If you receive financial aid, please see your financial aid representative before withdrawal. How do I add/drop a class? You can add/drop a course through: - Student Self Service (my.ucf.edu) - UCF Valencia Osceola Advising Services, Building 4, suite 234 - UCF Valencia West Advising Services, Building 11, suite 104 Do I need an advisor’s signature to drop from a course? No, but it is always a good idea to consult your advisor regarding your academic program. How do I get my grades at the end of the semester? Students may access their grades through Student Self Service at my.ucf.edu.

F R EQUE N T LY ASK E D Q UESTI O NS When do I receive my final grades? Grades can be obtained approximately one week after the last day of the semester on Student Self Service. The exact date is on the Academic Calendar. They will not be mailed. What do I do if I think I have received an incorrect grade? If you think you have received an incorrect grade, you must - Speak to the instructor of the course before the next semester ends - Attempt to resolve the problem with the help of the instructor as soon as possible If you are dissatisfied with the instructor’s decision, or if you cannot reach the instructor, you may continue to pursue an informal solution with the department chair. For further information, consult the “Student Grade Appeals” section of the Golden Rule at goldenrule.sdes.ucf.edu. How do I fulfill general education requirements or prerequisites for my major at another institution? Students taking courses at other institutions must complete a “Transient Student Form,” available at: flvc.org. My audit shows I am pending. How do I get the pending status off my records? Students in certain majors are placed in a pending status until they complete the prerequisites for the major or apply to the college. Check with your academic advisor to determine if an application is needed for your major. When does a student go on academic probation and how long does the student stay on probation? Academic probation occurs when a student’s UCF GPA drops below 2.0. Academic probation will continue until the current term and UCF GPA are 2.0 or better. A student can continue at UCF on academic probation as long as they earn at least a 2.0 each semester. Remember that a student must have a UCF GPA of 2.0 or better to graduate. What if I do not earn a 2.0 my next semester while on academic probation? A student on academic probation is disqualified (first suspension) upon failure to achieve a 2.0 GPA during another semester. A student who is disqualified may not enroll at the university for two semesters following disqualification. Readmission after two semesters is not automatic. A disqualified student must submit an application for readmission supported by a letter indicating the reasons for previous academic difficulties, plans for achieving a GPA of 2.0 or better, and a recommendation from the department or college of the intended major. The total record will be reviewed and the readmission decision will be sent from the University Registrar’s Office. See the University catalog for further information. I need to leave UCF due to a medical problem. How do I get a medical withdrawal? If you have to withdraw because of illness, you must apply for the withdrawal within the semester from which the withdrawal is sought. Students seeking a late withdrawal because of medical conditions must have their physician provide the university with the appropriate medical information using forms that can be emailed to you by calling 407.823.2691. If you apply for a medical withdrawal, you will be withdrawn from all of the courses taken in the semester. www.ucfvalenciaeast.com | www.ucfvalenicaosceola.com | www.ucfvalenciawest.com 19

F R EQUE N T LY ASK E D Q UESTI O NS ACADEMICS It is after the withdrawal deadline and I need to return home for a family emergency. How can I do this without my academic record being adversely affected? If you are faced with a circumstance truly extraordinary and beyond your control, you may consider filing a petition for a late withdrawal if other arrangements cannot be made with your instructors. If you do need to petition for a late withdrawal, your academic progress will be assessed by your instructors to determine whether a “WF” (withdrawal-failing) or a “WP” (withdrawal-passing) would be assigned, should the petition be approved. If you are passing and receive a “WP,” your GPA will not be affected. However, if you receive a “WF” for any of your courses, it will be calculated as a failing grade. The petition form may be obtained by calling 407.823.2691. A petition for late withdrawal is not an option simply because you are not satisfied with your academic progress. REGISTRATION When am I able to register for upcoming semesters? You can obtain your registration time from Student Self Service at my.ucf.edu in the enrollment dates box. You may register at the designated time or anytime thereafter during the registration period. The registration dates can be obtained from the current Academic Calendar. The Academic Calendar is available online at registrar.ucf.edu. During the first week of classes a student can Add a class from Monday thru Friday; however to Drop/Swap a class it is only from Monday thru Thursday until 11:59 p.m. Add/drop dates are listed in the Academic Calendar. Do I have to go to UCF Orlando to register for classes? No, registration is available through Student Self Service (my.ucf.edu). Registration assistance is available at the regional campuses if you encounter problems. When can I access a course schedule? The summer/fall/spring schedule is available on myUCF (my.ucf.edu) by mid-March for the next academic year. How is my registration appointment time assigned? Registration appointment times are assigned to students according to the number of hours completed and GPA. The general rule for undergraduate students is the higher your GPA and the more hours completed, the earlier your assigned registration time. How do I verify the class or classes I have registered for? You can check your schedule by accessing a fee invoice/schedule through myUCF at my.ucf.edu. Be certain to double check where your classes are being held. It is your responsibility to arrange prompt payment of all your fees and tuition. How do I obtain my fee invoice? To obtain your Fee Invoice, log into myUCF at https://my.ucf.edu and click Student Self Service in the menu on the left. When the menu expands, click Student Accounts and then click Fee Invoice. You will be given the option to select a semester to view that semester’s Fee Invoice. BACK TO TABLE OF CONTENTS 20

What will happen if I do not pay my fees? You are fee liable for any class for which you register. If you decide you do not want to take a class, you must drop the class before the end of the drop period. Fees not paid by the payment deadline are subject to a late fee in the amount of $100. The fee payment deadline can be found in the academic calendar located on the Registrar’s website, registrar.sdes.ucf.edu. If I am a regional campus student, can I register for classes in Orlando? You may register for classes taught on any of the UCF campuses, with the exception of B.A.S. majors. Keep in mind, Orlando classes fill rapidly. TRANSCRIPTS AND CREDITS If I am a new student, when will I know what courses transferred into UCF? The university strives to process transfer credits as soon as possible. You can print a “Transfer Summary Report” from the Student Self Service link at my.ucf.edu. If I take courses outside of UCF as a continuing student, when will I know about this transfer credit? If you take courses at another institution while attending UCF, you must request a transcript from the institution upon completion of the course. Remember to complete a “transient student form” for approval of non-UCF coursework before you register for classes at another institution. If you have financial aid, there is additional paperwork that must be completed and submitted to the financial aid representative on your campus. Will I receive credit for courses I take at another university or community college? If you have successfully completed college-level credit from another regionallyaccredited institution, you will receive credit for the hours earned, but you may also need to fulfill UCF course requirements. Credit will be given as follows: - General education courses completed at Florida state colleges or universities may satisfy UCF General Education Program requirements if they are identical in prefix and number to UCF courses - Other transfer credit from junior and senior colleges and out-of state institutions will be evaluated on a course-by-course basis. Check with your academic advisor to see if the courses you have taken, or are going to take, are equivalent to UCF courses. If your courses are not equivalent to UCF courses, you may use them as general electives. How do the grades from my previous college coursework factor into UCF grade point average? Grades earned for any college-level coursework taken at any accredited college or university do not factor into your UCF grade point average. They are, however, utilized in determining your overall GPA.

F R EQUE N T LY ASK E D Q UESTI O NS TRANSFER QUESTIONS What steps should I take to complete the transfer process? If you are transferring with an A.A. degree from a Florida state college, UCF must have your “final transcript stating the A.A. degree has been awarded in order for you to receive the benefits guaranteed by the articulation agreement. Also, if you are currently completing a semester at another institution, you must request your transcript be sent to UCF after grades have been posted. If you receive financial aid, you must transfer your financial aid to UCF. Please see your campus financial aid representative for details. Must I submit high school transcripts in addition to college transcripts? Not if you anticipate completion of the A.A. degree. However, if documentation of two years of foreign language taken in high school is needed to meet the admission requirement, you must furnish the high school transcripts. What is the 48 hour rule? Your major requires a minimum of 48 hours of upper level or upper division courses (3000 and 4000) to be completed before graduation is allowed. Does UCF accept ONLY 60 credits from the state college? No, UCF accepts all coursework on your transcript. However, typically, not all coursework taken at other institutions deduct from the coursework necessary for your degree at UCF. The degree audit will note all credits deducted from the degree. What is the summer attendance requirement and must I complete this requirement? If you have earned 60 or more hours of credit at a state college, private college, or out of state institution before you enroll at a Florida public university, you are exempt from the summer attendance requirement. If you have previously enrolled in a Florida public university, you may be subject to this requirement. Why does my degree audit not show foreign language completed in high school? In order to give you credit for the foreign language, the university will need your official high school transcripts.

F R EQUE N T LY ASK E D Q UESTI O NS MISCELLANEOUS QUESTIONS How does UCF communicate with students? UCF requires all students to have a Knights email account. The Knights email account is the official way to communicate with students. Sign up by logging into your myUCF and follow the links! Some UCF forms request a student’s college and some request a student’s major. What is the difference? The University of Central Florida consists of several colleges, for example, the College of Business or the College of Education. Housed within each college are departments offering a variety of majors. What is the difference between upper and lower level courses and graduate and undergraduate courses? Lower level courses are 1000 and 2000 level courses and may lead to an associate’s degree. If you transferred from a state college, this is the course level you have been taking. Upper level courses are 3000 and 4000 level courses and must be taken to earn a bachelor’s degree. Graduate courses are considered to be courses numbered 5000 and above. What is the “third attempt surcharge?” All students enrolled in the fall 1997 term and after, regardless of when they started at UCF, are subject to third attempt surcharges. This includes all undergraduate courses you repeat or register for the third time, including completed courses, withdrawals and grades of incomplete. Courses taken before fall 1997 do not count toward the total. At this time, when you enroll in a course for the third time, you will be charged a rate approximately equal to out-of-state tuition. How do I obtain UCF football tickets? Information may be obtained by going to ucfgameday.com.
