WOMEN BOARD DIRECTORS: RACE & ETHNICITY At these 94 Fortune 1000 companies, fully three-quarters (75.4%) of the directors are Caucasian men; 14.3% are Caucasian women; 8.5% are African-American, Asian, Hispanic or Latino men; and 1.8% are African-American, Asian, Hispanic or Latina women. Of these four segments, minority women are the least well-represented. This breakdown illustrates the overwhelming presence of Caucasian men, as a group, in corporate director positions at California’s largest public companies. While the ethnic breakdown of the population is by no means a benchmark for corporate boards, there is an interesting reversal. Three out of four director seats in California, on average, are held by Caucasian men, who represent only 20% of the state’s population. At the same time, although non-Caucasian women represent more than 30% of California’s population, only one out of every 55 director seats (1.8%), on average, is held by a non-Caucasian woman.
